cord nerve cells. Later, tests reveal he has the condition. There is no cure for the disease, and life
expectancy stands between three to four years. Deterioration of the motor neurons leads
individuals to become dependent on activities and lose their speaking, moving, earing, and
breathing abilities. George dreads the idea of losing speech and mobility and depending on
others and considers voluntary euthanasia. However, the Christian worldview holds that
suffering is part of hums life that God gave as a curse during the fallenness of the world, there is
the hope of life after death based on the resurrection, and life is valuable. Therefore, only God
can give and take life. George should therefore consider his position based on the values and
beliefs of Christianity before making a decision.
George's suffering in the Christian narrative, with emphasis on the fallenness of the world.
According to the Christian worldview, suffering and fallenness go together. This started
when God put Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, where they were both responsible for caring
and nurturing his creation. They were free in the garden and did not suffer until they ate the fruit
God had warned them against. As a result, they were chased out of the garden. The fallenness of
the world started here, and God alienated himself from Adam and Eve due to their sin (Marra,
2017). Therefore, the Christian narrative views the fallenness of the world as the starting of
human suffering. God cursed Adam and Eve, telling them that they will have to toil hard to get
food. Thus, human suffering is a curse from God.
Therefore, George can connect his suffering as a sinner because God declared that sinning
was the reason for despair. Humans sin frequently and fall short of the will of God; comparing
to George’s case, he can justify his suffering to man’s sinful nature. Human beings do not like
being subjected to suffering because it comes from their actions in the garden of Eden. As human
beings, we have served God's judgment and suffering. Thus, George can console himself in the
idea that every human being has been sinful towards God and therefore prone to suffer.
How George can interpret his suffering with emphasis on the hope of resurrection
Christianity believes that God created everything in the world and gave his son Jesus for
humans to view God's image. Therefore, in the Christian perspective, one would interpret

George’s situation as God’s will. Suffering, including what George is going through, is intended
to bring humans closer to God and create awareness about the suffering of Jesus Christ. The
Christian narrative that Jesus died changed the notions and experiences of death. Death is tragic,
but Jesus Christ was able to conquer death after being crucified on the ross. Thus, death appears
as a defeated enemy in the Christian perspective, and humans also have the hope of conquering
death and rising when Jesus returns.
God, according to Christianity, constantly redeems the broken and will save humans from
death. Therefore, Christians should be close to God and live according to his wishes. Christians
remain steadfast in their faith when they perceive suffering as God's will (Van Tongeren, 2020).
Christians believe that God is orderly because he permits humans to suffer so that they turn back
from their sins and experience his love. Although humans might view suffering as punishment, it
still portrays God's love for them and encourages them to live according to his will. Therefore,
George can assess his life and repent and have faith that God has forgiven him his sins and that
his suffering will not continue beyond death. After repenting, he can have hope of resurrecting
when Jesus Christ comes back for his people.
How the Christian worldview would inform George’s view about his life value as a person
In the Christian worldview, George should believe that his life is a precisions gift from God
despite his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Therefore, a human being should not terminate
his life because only God has the right to give and take away lives. Even during his agonizing
time with his ailment, George should endure his pain and suffering related to the disease. Under
the Christian worldview, even under suffering, human beings should not result to ending their
lives. Instead, they are supposed to remain steadfast in faith despite their suffering. Therefore,
George is not justified to contemplate ending his life because he is suffering due to his disease.
George still counts as a valuable human being before God despite his illness and the
consequences of the disease, including the disabilities.

Life is a precious gift God has rewarded human beings (Ele, 2019). Moreover, since the sin
committed by Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, suffering is part of life for human beings
here on earth. Therefore, George is still a valuable creation before God, and only God knows
why he allowed George to suffer from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. As a result, George should
search into his situation and figure out the reason behind God’s will for him and what God is
trying to teach him and his medical condition. George should continue holding on despite the
will. Ultimately, God has a purpose for everyone’s lives regardless of their suffering, and only
God gives life.
Morally justifiable options for George in the Christian worldview
The Christian worldview would morally justify that George continues living his life until
God decides his time is up. Thus, euthanasia should not be an option for George; Christians hold
that life is precious and valuable and God's gift. Therefore, it is morally wrong to take the life of
a human being. Moreover, George should persevere his pain and suffering and pray for grace so
that he can give him the ability to persevere. Furthermore, suffering is part of life, and it is part
of God's plan. Therefore, humans should embrace suffering as part of their lives, including
George. Jesus Christ accepted his suffering on the cross. Therefore, human being should accept
their suffering, even those stemming from ailments.
Personal decisions if in George's situation .
I would consider enduring the suffering in George's situation and wait to see what God has
planned for me. However, it would be difficult enduring the suffering and living as a disabled
person depending on others. I would believe God has a reason for going through this kind of
suffering. Therefore, although I would be tempted to consider euthanasia, I would constantly
remind myself of God's love and try to hold on until God decides that my time is up. Even
though I would burden my family, it would be more painful for them to watch me die and leave
them behind.

Based on its values, the Christian worldview would focus on empowering George to drop
the idea of considering voluntary euthanasia and include that suffering is a part of human lives.
Even Jesus Christ, the son of God, went through suffering; therefore, we should accept suffering
as human beings. Before Jesus died on the cross, he significantly suffered and even questioned
God if it was his will that he should take the cup of suffering. Therefore, it is the will of God that
George is suffering, and he should therefore ask God to give him sufficient grace to enable him
to endure his suffering. Moreover, God can bring humanity closer to him and motivate them to
repent their sins through suffering. Therefore, in George's situation, he should consider his
situation to discover what God intends to teach him and draw closer to God.
The expectations concerning life and death significantly impact how individuals embrace
the idea of death. The Christian narrative holds that everything happens according to God’s will
(Van der Walt, 2017). In addition, it also assures Christians of a final hope, where there is life
after death and the resurrection of Jesus, which can guarantee humans that God has everything in
control. George should therefore embrace his suffering as the work of God in his life and his
