3 PROFESSIONALISM AND SOCIAL MEDIA

professional, we have a responsibility to uphold a standard of conduct consistent with standards

created by governing bodies like the American Nurses Association (ANA) in our work and

personal lives (Epstein & Turner 2015). This includes upholding one of the most important laws,

HIPPA. It is easy to violate HIPPA on social media. However, upholding nursing standards

enhances professionalism and instills confidence among nurses and the general public in general.

This enhances the effective usage of healthcare services, thus upholding the standards governing

the nursing profession. It also ensures that patients' privacy and confidentiality are maintained.

This occurs when a patient's information is guarded not to reach the third party that maliciously

uses them. Nevertheless, in some cases, nurses can also violate the HIPPA when posting pictures

of themselves taking illegal drugs such as bhang, heroin, or even alcohol and posting

pornographic photos.

Carrying out health education on various social media platforms reflects the value of

service to humanity, as illustrated in the Christian religion. It provides humanity with

information that will keep them healthy. Since it guides one's health, it falls under humane

aspects that protect one's life. After reviewing my social media, I found the areas that reflect

Christian values are cases where I educate individuals on harmful elements of certain behaviors,

thus relieving them of its harmful effects.

In conclusion, social media sites play a significant roles in our daily lives. Companies,

coworkers, and fellow nurses should use social media to connect with healthcare professionals

Summarizing Social Media the Findings

Today, social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn play a significant role

in our society's everyday lives. This occurs the same across different business organizations. On

Facebook, most companies have private groups to engage in topics to improve the work

environment and socialize with one another. During the recruitment of potential candidates for

employment, companies use social media for advertising and screening candidates, according to

(Jeske & Shultz 2016). Individuals who have had inappropriate and unethical conduct on social

media may face challenges in securing various positions, especially in nurses' cases. Some may

see their contract being terminated from their position and faced with legal problems if they

violate HIPPA or cause legal trouble for the company they work for.

After reviewing my social media activity, I can honestly claim that it is not a big part of

my life. I go on a few sites that I like, but I do not use many social media to communicate with

people. However, one thing that may be considered unprofessional is a post I was tagged on my

Facebook by my boyfriend while holding a beer bottle. However, after finding the picture and

informing my boyfriend of the current situation, he deleted it. From then I rarely comment on

political or other non-professional posts. This includes posts that make fun and jokes that mock

the care provisions or patient's status.

Nurses are taken to a higher standard. The nursing profession has been seen as the most

trusted profession for many years. Because society views nurses as respectable, dedicated, and

and learn new students. However, since there are many benefits and disadvantages to it, users

must be aware and cautious of what they post.
