project report on energy transitions in Canada
Format of the report
• Can use the same Word template as for the project proposal if you want
• Include proper headings and sub-headings
• Do something that looks professional. • Don’t start a section with a bullet list.
• Use Spell check, but don’t rely only on this.
• The report should have an abstract: • Abstract summarizes your report in ~ 1 paragraph • Not just a discussion of what is in the report. You should summarize the
Introduction, Body and Conclusion of your report.
Introduction and background
• You are introducing what will be in the report.
• The Background should be specific to your project. For example, if doing a project on Electric Cars, you can explain a bit about electric cars in the past, why gasoline engines dominated, and what is changing now (battery technology, push to reduce GHG). • Don’t give me a detailed description of climate change and resource
depletion, etc.
• A detailed discussion should be pointed on different aspects of the project itself, such as hybrid cars, charging time and electrical energy required for traveling in the above example.
Methodology and analysis
• Requires some of your original thoughts such as:
• Are there other equivalent products on the market?
• How is this new product better than previous products serving a similar function?
• Quantify potential benefits of this product (energy generations/savings, etc.)
• Are there other emerging products that claim superior performance?
• What is the best target market for this product and why?
• Discuss about environmental consequences.
Figures, Drawings and Tables
• Tables and figures should be sequentially numbered and appear in the report immediately after the related discussion in the text.
• The labels for tables appear at the top of the table and the labels for figures appear at the bottom of the figures.
• Each table or figure should be mentioned somewhere in the relevant text of the report.
Discussion and conclusion
• No technology is perfect. I want a balanced report.
• Conclusion is to re-iterate your main findings in your report.
• You could include what additional research would be needed.
• References should be marked in the text. Materials from others should be addressed properly.
• Type of references and how they appear in the reference part of the report is mentioned in the next slides.
