Internship goal: To know how Restaurant operates, work in a kitchen, want to be a chef in future so, I work as a kitchen helper, learn about ingredients, recipes.

Main points regarding your internship report:

Deadline to submit the report: 27 October 2017

The report should be maximum 35,000 characters. This is excluding acknowledgement, summary, table of contents, reference list and appendix.

Contents of the report:

• Internship evaluation

• Achievement of learning goals

• Preliminary research question of the main research report

• Considerations on collection of data and methodology

• Theoretical considerations

• Conclusion

• Reference list

Structure of the report:

1. Company description:

This should contain a short introduction of the company with its mission and vision, the service product and the target market (the customers). Perhaps describe it with the help of 1-2 theories you learnt from 1st & 2nd semester.

2. Internship evaluation:

How was your internship? Did the company live upto your expectation?

3. Achievement of learning goals:

You need to evaluate your internship with regards to the goals that you had set in the beginning of your internship. This is not just about writing if you did those things to listed in your goals, but rather evaluating your approach and the lessons learnt from these goals. For instance; If your goals has been to learn about online marketing, it is not enough that you write “I had been interested in learning about online marketing and I got the opportunity to learn about online marketing and I am thankful to the company for this opportunity.”

What is expected in the report is you reflect upon your efforts to learn and the difficulties you faced or if you found it completely different than what you had thought the online marketing is about.

These 3 points should cover approx. 60% of your report.

4. Preliminary research question of the main research report:

During your internship, you might have come across some situations where you might have been thinking the company could do better or improve some areas of service, market, marketing or even the management. These situations can be turned into a research question and be elaborated further as your research part.

5. Consideration on collection of data and methodology:

Your research is not complete without data. So in this section, you need to write about what kind of data you will need to collect in connection to the research question, the advantage and disadvantage of selecting the particular data and the methods to collect data, again positive and negative side of the data, the reliability and validity, drawbacks and limitations of the research design.

You also need to prepare a plan (perhaps a timeline on deadlines for data collection as well as analysis) on how you will proceed with the research question for your final assignment.

6. Theoretical considerations: Your research should be based on minimum one theory. If you are looking at the strategy or marketing, apply the theories you have learnt during 1st and 2nd semester. If your report lacks theory, you are not even half way.

You also need to consider whether the data are applicable to the theories and vice versa. If you consider to collect data on customer satisfaction, you need to use suitable theories within customer satisfaction and NOT about product development or Business Canvas model.

7. Conclusion: Here you need to summarize your assignment. You can either write your sub-conclusion right after each section or you can summarize it all together at the end. Which ever way you choose, you need to consider the main observation, learning point and your reflection writing a conclusion. DO NOT by any chance come up with new issues that is not mentioned earlier in your report in your conclusion.

Where to include the financial part?

It is essential that you have learnt and understood the economic perspective of running a business. But writing about it in detail is not necessary (For me. Other teachers may have different approach).

If you have in your internship goals, intended to learn about financial management, then you can put your considerations, observations and reflection in that section.

If you have research questions that have some connection with financial management, then it should be part of your data and theory consideration.

But if it is not related, then it is better to use the space on some other points that are more important to highlight.

Academic writing: Remember to refer to the sources as much as possible and maintain a reference list. Include as much as possible the books and other literature that you can across during 1st and 2nd semesters.

Note: Reference and footnotes are very important.
