important as economic and military security?

The environment is said to be secure when the naturally

available resources are safe from pollution and human

interferences and that they are able to sustain human life.

The naturally occurring resources are products of the

environment and often are the sources of livelihood for

both man and animals (Myers, 2004). Securing the

environment and protecting it from pollution is equivalent

to securing human life. Environmental factors like

weather and climate directly affect human activities which

could be sources of income. The world’s climate has over

time been affected by human activities which lead to

climate change hence significantly affecting human

activities (Myers, 2004). Economic security aims at

maintaining a sustainable economy but most often the

economy is sustained by human activities and productivity.

Interfering with the environment through pollution

therefore means interfering with the economy.

Economic insecurities will lead to criminal acts aimed and

survival therefore giving a chance for terrorism and other

external attacks. Ensuring military security also starts

from ensuring a secure environment that can sustain a

productive population (Floyd, 2008). As our nations

struggle to ensure economic and military security it is

important that they also ensure the environment is safe

from pollution since protecting the environment is as

good as protecting the world from future economic and

military problems.
