PRELIMINARY FORENSIC REPORT ON MURDER OF A WOMAN

I. INTRODUCTION

The age of technology and many advancements in the information technology has brought about various challenges that remain a threat to the smooth running of any organization or system. Security is an essential aspect in information systems and often requires consistent checkup and monitoring to ensure conformity to safety standards. Computer forensics is an essential element of any investigation process in the cases where cyber -crimes have been committed. In computer forensics, techniques of investigation and analysis of any available evidence are done to ensure accuracy and reliance of the transparency. (Luttgens, Pepe, & Mandia, 2014).

Computer forensics is made up of a chain of integrated tools that require careful and proper use in order to compliment them with the others as need. These tools include database analysis tool, file analysis tool, registry analysis tool and an OS analysis tools. Some of these tools get based on disk imaging software; soft/hardware write tools, and Hashing tools and file recovery program. All these elements are integrated to produce reliable results that lead to the required positions of bringing supported evidence against an individual. The technical tools used in forensics include image recording tools, data collection devices such as scanners and camera/detectors to help find any hidden information. Other methodologies such as decryption and hacking can get used in accessing any information that is beyond the regular access due to restrictions and inability to access the data (Nelson, Phillips & Steuart, 2014).

Computer forensics could have applications in making essential factors remain in place. It is the basis for correct investigation results and fair, justice and transparent litigating process. When investigating incidents in the public domain, computer forensics is an essential tool that needs to get placed in the restricted area. The factors that are constant in any investigation are related to the quality of work performed by the investigative body. Such a level of work ensures that there are freedom and safety. This method of analysis is very vital in security departments which ensure there is safety for those involved. The work of computer forensics is not comparable to any tradition investigative methods.

Report:

Re: Examination and computer forensics analysis report regarding the murder of a woman.

b. Introduction:

In India on 3rd October, 2018 at around 8:00hrs, the biodata, and other notable evidences were collected in the scene of the alleged murder. The collection of data involved biodata from the furniture, the available elements in the scene of the murder and the fingerprints. The data was through collected and all the scene inspected all the corners of the house. The aim of this was to investigate the cause of the woman’s death. Since the allegations of the cause of death fall on a suspicion of murder by her husband, the intention was to collect as much evidence as possible to prove this allegation.

c. Assessment:

We found a video evidence on the computer which

was recorded on the occasion of his birthday. In video it was found that he got a call at the time of cake cutting. Then he stopped cutting the cake cutting and lifted the call and went aside to start conversation on the phone. When he came back and about to start the cake cutting, her wife stopped him to cut the cake and asked him about the person with whom he was talking till now. Then a fight started between them arguing that he was talking to some other lady who was suspected as an illegal affair. This evidence clearly explains us that they had a serious fight between them for many days about an unknown lady.

A sharp knife was also extracted from the scene. It has fingerprint marks which matched the husband and was stained with blood. The analyses on the body showed evidence of having been straggled. The samples of the biodata that were analyzed also had clear.

The results from the analysis indicated a high percentage of enforcement of elements from another individual. The DNA analyses was also identified to match those of the husband. All the other biodata elements were analyzed and also indicated positive DNA matches with those collected from the husband. The computer forensics machines also showed that there is an involvement of the husbands DNA elements in the incident.

The mobile phone of the husband was collected. By examining the audio recordings in his phone, we found that a lady in his office has an interest towards him and she always forced him to leave his wife. And there are many recording in the phone saying that he denied the office lady. On the day of his birthday, he spoke to the office lady. But in the conversation he told her to leave him as he don’t have such interest towards her. This was recorded in his phone.

His wife misunderstood him in this case and tortured him. In a peak situation he was not able to handle her and stabbed her in a frustration.

d. Analysis:

All the analysis was done and clarity of all the

forensic elements was matched with a clear conclusion on murder. It is therefore clear according to this research that the deceased woman attempted for suicide by herself. The indication from the video and audio recordings which gives a background of what is drawn to have caused the problems is trustable evidence to this effect.

Finally, all the computer forensics results from the analysis by the tools point clearly that the woman was killed by her husband. The strongest evidence to this conclusion is the video and audio evidence that was accessed from the family Pc and husband’s phone. It is therefore undoubtable that the misunderstanding is responsible for the murder of her.

Supporting evidence from Investigation and the forensic report carried out;

i. There were positive DNA match of samples collected from the scene of the incidence with the husband.

ii. The analysis of the scene and biodata collected indicates that the woman was murder by stabbing. The finger prints on the knife allegedly used also match those of the husband.

iii. The video from the family computer and recorded by an old existing camera show a video of arguments in which the husband clearly accuses her of infidelity and threatens her life.

iv. The scene of the murder had signs of a fight in which the victim must have been defenseless has the stabs prove so.

v. The man involved in this murder allegedly changed his clothing the same time the murder took place and the garments (collected on their maternal bed)

indicate positive DNA matches to the man.

The computer forensics report from the incidence clearly attributes the death of the woman to the husband, the accused.

Tools used for the investigation:

i. FTK Imager is a data preview and imaging tool that allows you to examine files and folders on local hard drives, network drives, CDs/DVDs, and review the content of forensic images or memory dumps.

ii. DSi USB Write Blocker is a software based write blocker that prevents write access to USB devices. This is important in an investigation to prevent modifying the metadata or timestamps and invalidating the evidence.
