Introduction
The existence of robots started in the ancient days but in the modern world,
robots came into being during the industrial revolution. The rst robot was
invented by George Devol and it was a digitally operated as well as
programmable robot. It was later in 1956 that the rst robot company was
established by Devil and Joseph his partner. The rst robot was used in
different companies for instance General Motors automobile factory located in
New Jersey. The rise of computer and information technology came together to
form the articial intelligence in the form of "robots that could learn". A series
of robots were designed and each robot has a specic task to play.
Since 1980, modern robots have been invented that not only can learn but also
has the power to execute different industrial tasks for instance handling all
types of jobs that the robot has been programmed to handle with massive
effectiveness, speed, and efciency. At rst, robots could be used to handle all
the dirty work but currently, even ofce tasks are being allocated to robots.
Additionally, the fact they are not paid and they have potential to handle a high
amount of work than human beings made robots preferred by employers as an

effective way of reducing cost of production. As a matter of reality, companies
that since 1980 has embraced robotic technology has beneted from an added
competitive edge than companies that entirely rely on human labor. This is to
mean that robots have a lot of impact on businesses and life in general.
Notably, the impact is both positive and negative and this essay shall hence
focus on analyzing the impact that robots have on business and life.
The impact
Since the introduction of robots rst in the world of business and later to social
life, there has been massive impact that people have experienced. There are
some people who view the impact from the positive point of view and others
from the negative point of view. Nevertheless, just like any other innovative
idea, robotic technology is not perfect in all aspect and this is the reason why
some people claim and feel robots negatively affects business and life in
general. Others who benet from them feel that since their introduction, life
has changed for the better both at work and at home as well.
According to a research conducted by Moniz, António and Bettina, (23); robots
were designed using articial intelligence application because they were
meant to work with human beings and not to replace human beings. The author
claims that this is the abused fact that has made some people to develop a
negative attitude towards the inventions. Robots were made in a manner they
would think and handle issues like a human being or even better because they
were meant to compliment a human being and by so doing human beings would
learn and also perfect their performances. In the article, the author claims that
it is a wrong perception where people have been using the statement "Robots
working with humans" but instead it should be "Humans working with robots".
Moniz, António and Bettina, (23); shares an example of the rst robots for
instance the one at the GM because it was working with human beings.

In a different article by DeCanio, Stephen, (281) similar sentiments to those of
Moniz, António and Bettina, are shared in the sense that articial intelligence
is meant to help perfect human beings but not to overshadow them. In the
article, DeCanio, Stephen, (281) states that whenever robots are used to
substitute human beings, they create competition and this is the reason why
they are not appreciated. However, in the instance where they are used to
complement human beings, they have managed to make a positive impact to
work and life. One of the way that DeCanio, Stephen, (282); identies as being a
robotic technology impact is that the technology promotes workplace safety.
This is because robots operate in the same way as human beings due to the
application of articial intelligence and since they are machines and cannot
suffer any harm or injury, they handle all the dirty and risky work. Hence,
human beings are saved from handling tasks that can lead to accidents and
incidences for instance handling toxics and chemicals.
According to Daroga, Ranjeet, and Nishantraj, (1); robotic technology was made
to make use of articial intelligence for the purpose of endorsing the sixth
sense. This is to mean that human beings have to apply their ve different
senses and the technology to boost human beings with a sixth sense. It is for
this reason that the presence of robots in the workplace has promoted working
speed. The more reason is that human beings have specic number of hours
they can work and a maximum speed rate they can handle different task.
Robots on their part have a relatively high operating speed and the fact they are
programmed makes them error-free. As a matter of reality, robots have ability
to handle task that can be handled by ten individuals in a day (Dirican, Cüneyt,
566). This is to mean that a single robot is a representation of ten employees.
Additionally, robots do not require supervision or motivation for them to work.
This is to mean with robots, investors are able to meet deadlines and set

standards since robots do not compromise. Moreover, unlike human beings
who are consistent in performance, robots are consistent and this is the reason
why companies that have embraced robots records higher and reliable
performance.
From the impact that robots have in the workplace, the impact can hence be
said to be both good and negative (Smids, Jilles, Sven, and Hannah, 21). The
fact that they help in executing tasks effectively and in an easy way, they are a
threat and this affects levels of motivation. Also, many employees have been
able to learn from robots and have managed to progress their career due to
improved performance. However, there is also a negative impact in the sense
that employees are gradually becoming dependent on robots to execute almost
all the work. This is one of the reasons that employees' offers to their
employers that even a limited number of workers can handle the tasks with the
help of robots.
Even in daily life, robots have ability to make a positive impact because they are
used for different purposes. This is to mean that they easily make life easier
and one does not need to spend on them. For instance, robots can be sent out
for shopping or deliver something to any location (Smids, Jilles, Sven, and
Hannah, 22). Robots have ability to handle even house chores and this means
people can relax while are robots work for instance cleaning the house, doing
laundry, washing dishes, and other house chores. The fact that they are
organized makes life better and more so, they can handle tasks at any time of
the day or night.
Sadly, Dirican, Cüneyt, (568); looks at the effects of robots from a hazardous
point of view and claims that robots though they were meant to complement
human beings have overpowered their mandate to the point of substituting
human beings. The fact that robots have ability to handle a ten peoples' job

and the fact they are not paid means that they pose a great opportunity for
employers to hire a smaller number of people. This is to mean they contribute
to loss of jobs and high rate of unemployment in the society. This is a fact
because a single robot which only requires one person to control it can perform
a surgery that requires ve to six surgeons for success to be attained. Also, a
single robot can assemble a vehicle to its completion within a day for free a
task that requires more than six mechanical engineers for close to two day.
Also, robots operate machineries better than human beings since they are
times and for instance in the exploration industry, they have the ability to get
even to the darkest and most dangerous zones a capability that human beings
do not have. This is the reason why robots are perceived as a major threat.
According to West, Darrell, (10); what happens when robots take jobs that are
meant to be carried out by human beings is that social and career life is also
affected. The more reason is that when a limited number of people are earning
it means that few people contribute to the economy through revenue
generation and also few people get to earn a decent living. For this reason life is
affected because the gap between the poor and the rich continues to widen.
The more reason is that the rich who are the owners of the companies and
industries would earn more since robots work better than human beings and
pay less since there is a small number of employees' West, Darrell, (12). In the
long last, employers would enjoy a higher prot margin from the application of
articial intelligence at the expense of human labor.
Conclusion
Robots are a perfect demonstration of articial intelligence and how articial
intelligence can affect business and life positive and negatively. However, from
the research, it is evident that the negative impacts are caused by human
beings through becoming over dependent on robots. In the case robots are used

for the initial purpose they were designed and invented for, they would not
substitute human labor but rather complement it. Sadly, many employees feel
that robots have even better human intelligence and performance and the fact
that they are not paid or motivated for them to work, employees consider them
as human labor substitute. The effect comes in the sense that loss of employee
and economic instability. From these impacts, it is evident that a balance ought
to striked between the use of robots and human labor so as human being can
work with robots in order for the robots to use their articial intelligence and
complement human beings.
