The purpose is to enhance the understating of simulation application in healthcare, manufacturing, agricultural, transportation and supply chain, and automotive industries.
The length of your report should be at least 5 pages and should not exceed 8 pages. Below are the steps that help you to complete the report for exam II.
Step 1 (area selection): Pick an area that you want to explore the application of simulation. The area that you select should be one of the below:
Healthcare, manufacturing, agricultural, supply chain management, transportation, automotive
Step 2 (search and selecting papers): Let’s suppose that you would like to explore the application of simulation in healthcare. Step 2 is to find relevant papers with regard to the application of simulation in healthcare. Below you can find some keywords that help you find relevant papers:
Application of simulation in hospital
“Discrete event simulation” + hospital
Simulation + emergency room
“Discrete event simulation” + care unit
You should be able to find plenty of papers depending on your search keywords. Select the top two papers that you think fits better to this work. It is totally your choice to pick one of the areas mentioned above. Practical papers are preferred.
Step 3 (reading and comprehending): read the papers carefully and understand how the simulation tools can improve the productivity and efficiency of healthcare (e.g., hospital, or emergency unit).
You need to understand what are the challenging issues in the papers that you read. Why authors applied simulation tool to the healthcare problem? What kind of challenging issues in those papers can be solved using simulation?
Step 4 (writing report): Write a report and summarize your understanding about two papers that you read.
What does your report should say? Your report should explain how simulation tools can be used to help healthcare or any area that you chose. What are the main challenging issues that can be solved in healthcare based on your understanding from the papers that you read. What are the finding and results of papers that you studied and your conclusions and understanding about the application of simulation tool in healthcare. Of course, you can chose any aforementioned area instead of healthcare.
