Importance of Social Media in Marketing

For many target customers social media is becoming a more popular focus for advertising because it can be a very inexpensive way to reach many different users (Lim, 2015). With such a large percentage of the public using social media businesses cannot afford not to interact with customers via channels like Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms. Companies should be marketing via social media, it is not necessary to be on every channel (Lim,2015). But it is important for a company to invest in the platforms where they are more likely to reach and engage with a target audience (Lim,2015). Social media marketing refers to the process of gaining a customer’s attention through social media sites (Evans,2010). Social media marketing creates content that attracts attention and encourages readers to share it with their social networks (Evans,2010).

Using social media for marketing enables a business to project a brand image across a variety of different social media platforms (Evans,2015). Social media marketing is a perfect channel for sharing business content with readers. Once a company builds a loyal following on social media, they will be able to post all new content and make sure readers can find new information right away. Also, great blog content will help build more followers (Evans,2010). Using social media for marketing enables businesses looking to further their reach to more customers. A business with a strong social media marketing plan will improve its growth (Hinsch,2016).

Social media is a place to provide value and communicate with customers (Evans,2010). A company should interact with their customers, and potential customers.  When customers reach out via a social media site, it is vital that a company responds to their customers (Hinsch,2016). By doing this it lets the customer know that the company is listening and cares about their opinion.

In closing, with such a large percentage of the public using social media businesses cannot afford not to interact with customers via popular social sites like Facebook. Using social media is a great way to provide value to any business.  Social media offers various avenues to project a brand image and interact with customers. A business with a strong social media marketing plan and presence on the web will improve its growth.
