A researcher develops a research question by analyzing the interest of the topic to the researcher and the reader. Once the topic of interest is identified then the refinement begins to form into an appropriate research question, there should be an avoidance to use categorical statements but instead should be in the form of a research question. A research question is not only open-ended, but it focuses on a specific understanding. A researcher should be able to shed light on the question and attempt to be able to answer the question, and the question should not only be neutral but balanced as well. The questions should be honed so much so that one can successfully review research on the subject that has been published but so focused that there isn’t any interest in the subject. Make the decision on which viewpoint the research question will be examined.  There are six steps to research strategy. Step one is developing the research question and ensuring it is narrowly delineated, well defined, and interesting, Step two is to find the keywords that will be in a research question. Step three is creating synonyms of words that were identified in step two.  Step four involves writing down the names of those experts or scholars associated with the research topic. Step five consists of refining the research topic about the timeline; what will be the timeline covered? The last step entails the consideration of the viewpoint and or aspect that will be used to approach the topic. (Staines, 2019)

When picking a research question, the researcher has to ensure the question is complex enough that it cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. The question needs to be a focused statement that can be covered effectively in your paper. One of the first things a researcher has to do when picking a research question is find a topic of personal interest.  The topic needs to be something that the researcher is passionate about or interested in. Researchers also take into consideration their target audience is the topic something that would be of interest to them.

APA PsycArticles is a database that provides peer-reviewed articles that are published by APA along with affiliated journals, with almost 120 journals that include their flagship publication. Their contents published are vetted and meet high-quality standards. Additionally, the database is updated every two weeks. I believe that this database is great for anything that is affiliated with subjects in behavioral and social sciences but would not be beneficial for any other subject and has full text. This site appears to be a great source of current information and beneficial. (Association, 2022). The link to the website is: https://www.apa.org/pubs/databases/psycarticles

The National Library of Medicine is a database for the retrieval and search of life sciences and biomedical literature, and it aims to improve, personally and globally, health. The database has over thirty million abstracts and citations. One of the weaknesses of the database is that it does not have full-text journals however it does provide links. This database also includes bioengineering along with behavioral, life, and chemical sciences. (Medicine, 2022). The link to the website is: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/about/

Springer has a very large database with multiple subjects such as law, math, philosophy, science, and many more. Springer Nature, Springer is a part of, is a global publisher that supports and serves the community of research. Additionally, Springer has a variety of journals and books. I believe that one of the weaknesses of the database is the user-friendly aspect of it, I was having a difficult time navigating through it however the massive amount of publishing is a strong suit for this database. In my search for online databases that provide access to peer-reviewed publications, I found two that I recognized ScienceDirect and PubMed.

ScienceDirect is an online database that provides access to a large range of content including books and journals covering Life Sciences, Social Sciences & Humanities, Health Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering. ScienceDirect has approximately 1.4 million open access articles, over 41,000 books, 2,650 peer-reviewed journals, and over 362 topic pages. ScienceDirect is respected worldwide. Some Pros for using ScienceDirect are advanced search and history features, subject matter alert features, recommendations, data-mining, and relevancy ranking guide algorithms to provide better search results. The only cons I can see from this database are the cost of a subscription may not be affordable for many and that is owned by a parent company, Elsevier.

PubMed is a government database that is run by the National Library of Medicine. PubMed has publications from biomedicine, health fields, behavioral sciences, chemical sciences, bioengineering, and life sciences. The pros of PubMed are that it is a free database, and it offers convenient citation and history functions. The cons are that it is not as easy to navigate as other databases, and it does not offer searches that are as advanced as other platforms.
