Leadership Theories in Practice
Leadership is one of the critical elements for implementing new models of care and creating clinical environments of the required quality. The first article explains that nurse leadership is essential for providing high-quality patient care and the improvement of organizational outcomes. It explains that transformational leadership has an indirect influence on the levels of job satisfaction as it is associated with empowerment at the workplace. The use of this type of leadership is associated with an increased probability of creating clinical environments that support the professional practice of nursing (Boamah et al., 2018). Another article explains that one of the factors that contribute to unhealthy work environments is nurse burnout. Nurse burnout is associated with lack of motivation amongst nurses, emotional exhaustion, and increased feelings of frustration that reduce the work efficiency of nurses (Mudallal, Othman & Al Hassan, 2017). However, help nurses cope with demanding work environments.
Some considerable skills and behaviors make a good leader, as described in books and journal articles. The leader I have witnessed using these skills is a nurse manager at one of the health institutions I worked previously. The leader accepted all feedback from nurses irrespective of whether it was positive or negative. She also was able to provide clear communication on the duties and expectations of all employees. The leader's communication skills assisted in improving the flow of work in the outpatient department (Tang et al., 2018). The leader also organized weekly sessions of continuing education for empowering nurses and ensuring they improve on their knowledge and skills. Finally, the nurse leader was proactive in taking part in projects at the workplace, and this helped to encourage other members to improve on their effort in the provision of care.
