The theory I have chosen is Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory. Vygotsky's theory emphasizes the fundamental role of social interaction in the development of cognition (Mcleod,2023). The influence of adults' experiences being passed to children, helps to socialize children that promote speech and thinking.
One example from my life is conversations with individuals who are well-educated that spoke to me as though I was an adult rather than a child. Learning how to act and think as an adult as a child had given me an advantage over my peers because I was able to gain more opportunities at a younger age. Another example is my language as I have not only gained an advanced understanding of the English language but also Spanish as both were spoken in my community.
The concept of children absorbing information that shapes both inner and external dialogue from community interactions mainly by those of adult dispositions, helps me understand how my experiences came to be. Individuals such as parents, teachers, coaches, and elders in the community have a strong impact on how children act, think, and make decisions. Language is a major factor that affects how children learn (McLeod, 2023).
