The theory I choose to talk about is the theory of behaviorism. An example of behaviorism in my life is learning to not touch the stove, even after it's turned off. I was taught this by my hand being burned due to the stove top that was being used was still hot. An aspect like this from this theory helps me better understand my example is the concept of learning. Behaviorism is defined as "a theory of learning that believes learning occurs through teachers’ rewards and punishments that lead to changes in behavior (Duchesne et al., 2014; Blaise, 2011; Pritchard, 2013)." (Drew 2023). The concept of learning is what makes the theory. There are many different ways of learning what to do and not do when growing up with pai being one of those lesson teachers. Pain has shown/taught people what to do or not do in different situations. My example of learning not to touch the stove even if it is turned off is a perfect example on how pain is one of those teachers. The pain from placing my hand on the stove is what taught me not to touch a stove top even if it is turned off because it could still be hot from the last use.

The theory I have chosen is Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory. Vygotsky's theory emphasizes the fundamental role of social interaction in the development of cognition (Mcleod,2023). The influence of adults' experiences being passed to children, helps to socialize children that promote speech and thinking.

One example from my life is conversations with individuals who are well-educated that spoke to me as though I was an adult rather than a child. Learning how to act and think as an adult as a child had given me an advantage over my peers because I was able to gain more opportunities at a younger age. Another example is my language as I have not only gained an advanced understanding of the English language but also Spanish as both were spoken in my community.

The concept of children absorbing information that shapes both inner and external dialogue from community interactions mainly by those of adult dispositions, helps me understand how my experiences came to be. Individuals such as parents, teachers, coaches, and elders in the community have a strong impact on how children act, think, and make decisions. Language is a major factor that affects how children learn (McLeod, 2023).
