Classmate 1 MD:

In analyzing the three courts, I ranked the judges based on their disposed cases relative to their appealed cases. I referred to reversed cases when duplicates occurred under the appealed cases. I am including my rankings below showing in total that the Domestic Relations Court has the most favorable probability given only 1 in 288 cases appealed, and 1 in 1,794 reversed. While the other two courts have higher probability of both appeals and reversals. The Municipal Court has 1 in 217 cases appealed, and 1 in 1,043 reversals. The Common Pleas Court has 1 in 25 appeals and 1 in 221 reversals. Overall totals show Domestic Relations with only 0.36% of appeals and 0.05% of reversals and thus having the fewest mistakes to the total caseload. In consideration of the two judges, T. Hogan and P. Dinkelacker, not serving in the same court for the entire period and not knowing the length of time in each court, I removed their case history to ensure the data was not skewed. However, the totals remained consistent showing the Domestic Relations Court as the better quality performer.

Classmate 2 MA:

Based on the information provided I prepared an analysis to rank the judges/court and I’ve also ranked the 3 courts based on the probability of each court receiving an appeal and/or a reversal case. Both classic method and the relative frequency method can be used to complete the analysis. What I’ve found is that Common Plea Court had the highest percentage of appealed and reversed cases than the other two. I’ve also found that Municipal Court had the lowest percentage of appealed and reversed cases and it performed the most cases out of the three. Although I’ve removed both judges that didn’t practice in the requested period, it really didn’t make much difference either way. Municipal Court is the better-quality performance court since it had the most cases performed with the least percentage/probability to receive an appeal/reverse case. The judges who are highlighted in red had the worst performance ranking compared to the other judges that worked within the court.

Classmate 3 AP:

During a three-year period, 38 Hamilton County Judges tried 182,908 cases. Of the cases, 2,368 were appealed and 320 were reversed within 3 different courts; Common Pleas Court, Domestic Relations Court and Municipal Court.

During my analysis I calculated the chance of Appeal, chance of Reversal and the percentage of having a reversal versus and appeal. Once these calculation were complete I ranked each of the categories separately and then summed the ranking.

I found that in the Domestic Relations Court Judge Panioto had the best ranking, with a probability of appeal rate of .25%, probability of Reversale rate of .02% and a probability of reversal vs appeal of 9.38%. Second, Judge Cunningham and third, Judge Dinkelacker.

The Common Pleas Court best ranking judge is Judge Winkler with a probability of appeal rate of 2.85%, probability of Reversale rate of .19% and a probability of reversal vs appeal of 6.82%. Second, Judge Kraft and third, Judge Nurre.

The Municipal Court best ranking judge is Judge Grady with a probability of appeal rate of .11%, probability of Reversale rate of 0.00% and a probability of reversal vs appeal of 0.00%. Second, Judge Hair and third, Judge Mattingly.

The Common Pleas Court displays the best quality performance in regard to probability of appeal and probability of reversal, with an overall best ranking between the three courts.

Classmate 4: RI

We have three different courts that disposed of cases in a time period of 3 years. The total amount of cases that were appealed between the 3 courts is 2,368. Of those appeals, 320 cases were reversed. The total percentage of cases reversed upon appeal were only 13.5 percent. The total amount of cases that were appealed were a mere 1.3 percent. Overall, that is not terrible at all. Now, let’s see where each court stands individually.

Common Pleas Court, with the second most amount of cases has an 11.3 percent reversal rate, while Domestic Relations Court, with the least amount of cases has a 16 percent reversal rate. Municipal Court, with the most amount of cases has a reversal rate of 20.8 percent reversal rate. Here, it is easy to see that Domestic Relations Court has the highest probability of cases getting reversed. Domestic Relations trails Municipal by nearly 4 times the amount of cases but yet is only behind the reversal percentage at 4.8 percent. So, if Domestic Relations had as many cases as Municipal, then the reversal rate would be much higher. Please note, I did not remove Dinkelacker or Hogan from my report.

The court with the highest probable rate of reversals is clearly Domestic Relations Court.
