What is an effective reflective essay?

An effective reflective essay is an essay which contains the reflective thoughts of someone in documentation. Only the important aspects are supposed to be written in relation with the particular topic involved. The strategies used while writing an effective reflective essay are as follows; looking at the past events, analyzing the events and projecting them into the future. These past events should be analyzed in a reflective perspective to identify the main themes. The past events provide answers to questions such as; the reactions to these events and how and why one thinks they happened. This then indicates how one can handle the event in the future. Apparently an effective reflective essay comprises of three components, namely; the introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction should act as a mirror of the essay; it should be presented in an attractive way for the readers to have the urge to read more. In the body is where the themes are discussed. Topic sentences are used to in order to introduce to the reader what the paragraph contains.

Conclusion being the last component of the essay is the part where the themes discussed in the body are put into a summary. The impact as a result experiences of the themes and recommendations are given in this section. An effective reflective writing has several goals it boosts the self confidence of the writer (The Skills Team, University of Hull), exploring of the experiences encountered and understand the impact of an experience either negative or positive.

Reflective writing has enabled people to handle and view issues at different perspectives, either negative or positive. Thus they are able to come up with different solutions to the various issues.
