Dear Portfolio Committee:
Thank you for the opportunity to submit my RENG 92 portfolio for your review. I believe the portfolio is a great example of my hard work in this course. I am taking this course so that I can be better prepared to take RENG 91. One day, I hope to finish all of my developmental courses so that I can begin my major: Nursing. I’ll eventually go to a four-year school and study the same thing. Then, I will get a nursing job. Writing is important on nursing jobs. You must write clearly to make sure that patients’ medicines and test results are understood by all who read your reports.
By the time I become a nurse, I sure hope I have cleaned up my comma splice problem! I’m really bad with comma splices and fragments. I wish I would have had more time to go to the tutors for I think they would have been a big help to me. However, I still think my writing got better this semester even without the tutors. Look at my paragraph which is titled “Memories.” I think you will see what I mean. It tells a really good story and only had a few errors. Of occurs, my t4eahcer made me rewrite the paragraph about one hundred times! I used NetTutor twice. One time I made the corrections they gave me on my paper, and I did very well on that paper. The second time, I did not do my work on time, so when I got my paper back from them, I did not make it to make corrections, so I did not do well on that paper.
I take pride in saying that I attended every class except for one this semester, however, I know that I was sometimes late for class. I was never late for a test, though! The open book tests in this class made me get my notes in a more orderly fashion and to develop good notetaking skills. I will never be completely relaxed taking a test, however, I think I am more relaxed about testing thanks to the open book tests in this class. I also hope that I can be able to read more and study more. I did not know that college require a lot of studying and it is hard work. I always thought that it would not be this hard. I have learnt to set my goals and keep them, so I I can be better student and turn in my work on time. I plan to stay away from negative students because I have higher goal for myself. However, I will look for students that can wok as a group in order for us to achieve our goals. This will help us encourage and help each othr during our education.
My best writing in this class was my description paragraph on a global disaster. In my writing, I was able to paint the picture in the readers mind without having to use historical facts. I read about the issue because I knew about it and made it appear to the audience as if I was there. It was a paragraph about the Japan Tsunami. I used langage that made the audience see the image in their minds. They were able to see the effects through the descriptive language I used. Though I had so many errors at first because I wrote as if I was reporting what reports had said and it looked like research, I corrected them and I was able to make the audience think I was watching the Tsunami occur and the effects it caused.
Thank you again for reading over my portfolio. Feel free to e-mail me at:
[email protected] if you have any questions.
Also, I pledge that all writings included in this portfolio are my own. (This statement must be handwritten).
Sincerely,
Keisha McEntire
