Reflection on your Team Communication and Communication during your Marshmallow Challenge experience
Reflecting on the Marshmallow Challenge
“It seems that the admin's skills of facilitation makes a big difference. Any team member who pays close attention the process of work - encouraging timing, improving communication, cross pollinating ideas - increases the team’s performance significantly.”
Our Marshmallow Challenge give us the opportunity to experience the process of teamwork! Your text identifies several possible types of groups that may need to be formed all for a particular purpose. Your Team assignment will take a problem solving group. Before writing this journal read the section in our text on Problem Solving, watch the TED video on common experiences with this challenge, and visit the web site that explores the Marshmallow challenge results. The quote at the top of this page is a summary assessment of the experience of other groups with this challenge. On the web site they seem to be making the argument that if at least one member of the team has facitation skills then the final product will be superior.
After looking at the three areas of information noted above reflect on whether or not your team had any similar experiences of these other teams. What was similar? What was dissimilar? Look at the section in our textbook on Structured Problem Solving on pages 308-318, did you and your team go through any of these steps? Identify some of the details in these steps as compared to the textbook. What steps did you go through and what did that look like?
