There are many concepts that I found to be useful and relevant to my career and professional development such as employee voice, employee relations, and the protections given to labor contracts. The employee voice is a key concept that focuses on ensuring that the employees are able to participate in the affairs of the organization. Employee voice focuses on enabling the employees to express their concerns and have them addressed in time. The employees are given a chance to talk about the key issues affecting them within the organization as well as in their personal lives. This enhances the participation of employees in the day-to-day affairs of the organization while it is essential to facilitate improvement in business performance. Given a chance to contribute ensures that employees are more focused on their job. Employee voice within an organization can be promoted through effective management and better HR processes and practices.

Employee relations is another key concept that focuses on the efforts made within an organization in managing the relationships between the employers and their employees. Maintaining good employee relations ensures that the employer is able to offer their employees with fair and consistent treatment in the workplace. In turn, this improves employees’ morale and commitment to their job as well as loyalty to the organization. During the course, I was able to explore various sources and understand the importance of promoting employee relations in the workplace as a way of promoting the attainment of organizational goals.

Module 3 Case assignment provided some key insights regarding labor contracts. The labor contracts have a key role in ensuring that the relationship between employers and the employees can be enhanced while promoting harmonious relationships that enhance productivity. Labor contracts or collective bargaining agreements are aimed at ensuring that effective standards are set to streamline the relationships between the employers and the employees or contractors. Clearly, there are situations where disagreements arise between employees and the employers, which, if not resolved properly could significantly impact the entire organization. The labor contracts aim at ensuring that a suitable solution can be reached when such disputes arise.

I believe that the part that impact my perception of HRM practices in the private sector was the Module 2 and Module 3 assignments. These assignments covered the importance of employee voice in the workplace and how the HR professionals can enhance the resolution of employee grievances. Understanding the needs of the employees goes a long way in ensuring that the HRM professionals understand how to keep their employees motivated and committed to the organization. Overall, this course, readings and assignments, have been very useful in enhancing my career and professional development.
