Week 8 Reflection

“At various points in your careers, you will be called to take a risk. And I think you will find, as I have found, those will be the times of your greatest opportunities.” -Raymond V. Gilmartin

Introduction

The purpose of learning the various course in schools is to help the students to apply the theories, skills, and knowledge acquired in the daily activities, be it at their houses, place of employment, or even in society. To determine skills or the knowledge acquired, one must reflect on the concepts learned throughout their life experiences and course work. Reflection includes navigating and learning how these concepts can be applied in real-life situations. As stated by Socrates, “the unexamined life is not worth living.” This quote inspires people to reflect on the problems or issues at hand and to focus on how they can strengthen themselves, their abilities and their future. By doing so, one would become capable of remaining focused on what they want to achieve and avoid issues that may deter them from their path to a better future. Learning from our mistakes and living beyond our frustrations associated with failures is the best strategy in achieving our success.

What I Learned This Week

This week’s reflection has helped me learn and better understand self- determination and my contributions to those around me. It was quite clear that for one to achieve their targeted goals and objectives, one needs to be self-determined and focused on sharing themselves and abilities with those who can benefit from them. Optimism and dedication are the keys to the significant values that help us to remain focused on achieving our desires despite the numerous challenges that may come our way. Having a positive mindset about life helps in overwhelming the problems that we may encounter in life. Life is full of ups and downs, and to achieve our life goals, we should remain focused, and with a positive mind as well as determined, we can make whatever we set in our minds. All these efforts aide us in serving those around us and leaving them better off than we found them.

Amending My Behaviors

This week’s reading has helped me learn how to amend my behavior and be a better person positively. This topic aims at empowering a sense of life and increased positivity to students. Before this course, I could figure how to be the person my family and society wanted me to be, but now I have been able to restructure my mind and behavior in doing what is good for other people and me. I remain hopeful for a better thing to come as I keep following and doing what is best. Having a positive mindset helps me to stay focused even in the most challenging times. By amending my behaviors, I can remain focused and on the right path toward accomplishing my desires. I can achieve my goals and maintain good behavior (Deci, at el.,1989).

Ideas I can Use at Work and In Relationships

Some of the ideas I learned that could be applied in the workplace are self- determination, positive mindset, positive attitudes, and behavior. When the employees are self- determined they will work towards accomplishing the organization goals, and they will not allow little setbacks to pull them down. Having a positive mind will help the employees to achieve higher and even take up roles they would have that to be too big for them. Positive attitude and behavior will ensure that the employees remain on track and do what is expected of them (Tangney at el., 2007).

How I will Advance Globalization and Promote Social Justice

Some additional skills learned from this course are important skills to change the world. Today, the world has become a global village making it easy for people to connect and interact with each other through the use of modern technology. Through the use of the internet, we can launch a social media campaign to create awareness of the public issues in our world. Also, through the internet, we can offer support and encouragement to people in various countries. The most recent example is the case of George Floyd when millions and millions of people have used the social media platform to demand justice over his death. Online campaigns and protests help in promoting social justice (Kimura-Walsh & Allen, 2008).
