Demonstrate the following skills and abilities Apply knowledge and understanding of qualitative research to the design and implementation of a research study
This task gives you the chance to experience ‘doing qualitative research’ in a sport, physical activity or education setting of your choice. This task requires you to utilise the tools of naturalistic qualitative research: interviewing, (participant) observation, and analysis of the data you generate. You will design, gain consent for, and conduct a small piece of fieldwork that has been approved by the unit leader, and critically analyse your data.

How do I produce high quality work that merits a good grade?
|
|
High quality work in assessment 2 directly relates to your attendance and quality of your workbook. COVID 19 amendments: 1. If you have already done your time in the setting and have your data then the original criteria stands- To do this assignment you must have sent your approved letter to the gatekeeper, done your reading and discussed the issues with the unit coordinator to get the focus and setting approved. Overt research settings only.
You need to understand the ethical procedures and Personal Data Information and have all the necessary consent forms, and observation sheets available for use. You must observe in relevant settings and use the observation sheets to create rich description from which you will eventually code and suggest critical social meaning.
You probably failed the write up so this time -Please see the in depth mark sheet that indicates how to structure this research paper and what is expected in each heading. The ability to critically write is key to a good mark. Use the headings suggested (plus see the subheadings on the mark sheet) 2. If you have NOT managed to spend time in a setting yet; You are living a unique ‘ethnographic setting’ that is COVID 19 lockdown, it has affected all aspects of social life especially sport and physical activity, PE practices. You should think of a unique issue that starts from your or your families experience or from the media – I sent some examples to you. How are people adapting to exercise regimes now they cannot go to the gym/clubs/school etc? What are the themes emerging from this lock down and PA/football/ PE? Still adhering to the ethical guidelines -You can interview your family, friends via online platforms, or through socials – be inventive. Remember the topic you choose has to have a good theoretical underpinning – for example – identity, fandom, etc (You will not have to have a gatekeeper letter or one from the setting in option 2)
Introduction Review of literature Research design Ethics Tools of analysis Critical analysis (this makes up your 2000 words everything else below is not counted in the word count) Reference page Appendices Every section must be written in academic style – using various qualitative and academic authors to continually set up arguments and decisions about your design and then again to analyse your findings. Your appendices has to include all the required paperwork; All observation sheets coded, dated etc Your gatekeeper letter A reply from the organization supporting your time in the setting. Consent forms Participation Information form 5 minutes of the interview transcribed and coded.

| How does this assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions? |
|
This unit will provide you with an overview of qualitative research methods which can be used to answer the ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ of human behaviour, perspective and experience in physical activity, sport and education contexts. Building on the knowledge and skills gained at Level 4, this unit will enhance your understanding of the research process in qualitative studies, a range of qualitative methodologies and methods of data collection and generation, and important ethical issues in research. This unit serves as preparation for Level 5 dissertation preparation and Level 6 dissertation or work experience project units Assessment 1 was focused on 8 weeks of practical in-class tasks and research scenarios that built up your ‘qualitative skills set’. Full attendance will give you the toolkit needed to succeed. Observational, organizational, ethical and analytical skills will be developed well enough for you to succeed in a small piece of fieldwork of your own.
