RECRUITMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Strategies for Recruiting in South Africa

Employment Arrangements

Flexible work arrangements

Talent hired on basis of education and experience

A balance between the jobs and career development.

Contract Work and Permanent Hires

Contract basis for the talented.

Permanent hire for critical positions

In South Africa, there are business strategies being put in place during recruitment of employees. They include the following:

Flexible work arrangements:

Depending on the type of work, most companies are hiring not only experienced but passionate and talented individuals. Such people have a great love for what they do and in return they expect the employer to be fair to them. Many companies in south Africa, especially in technology allow employees to get a good work-life balance. Some programmers are allowed to work remotely and engaging them on matters that really require their attention.

Contract work and permanent hires:

People in South Africa are talented but most consider working on contract basis for the sake of their independence and freedom. Employees are however happy with their work because they fill critical positions temporarily and if the company is a good fit, they sign for permanent hire basis. Some companies in South Africa prefer having some employees on contract basis to help accomplish huge tasks supplementing the permanent employees.

Attitude

Support of goals and visions

Attitude assessment in recruitment

Attitude factors: outlook and tenacity

For a business to thrive, it needs employees who support the vision and goals of the company. In South Africa, employers before hiring they call people for more than three interviews while eliminating until they get their favourable. One key factor that is checked is attitude, where people are expected to exude a positive outlook and tenacity, traits that help them handle challenges when they arise.

4

Creativity

Creativity and self-drive

Freedom of working

Challenges breed creativity

Creativity and self-drive go hand in hand. Creative employees feel the urge to try new things without necessarily being pushed to do them.

Employers have confirmed that they are comfortable leaving the business to attend to other matters because most of their employees are creative and therefore there is no challenge that can overpower them.

Companies are not in need of people who will only sit back and wait for directions but those who have potentially better ways of doing things. It is important to think outside the box because it proves helpful in case problems and conflicts arise. A creative thinker is able to embrace the challenge and by so doing, a solution will ensue.

Personality

Traits assessment: how traits fit into an organization

Different traits will fit into an organization differently.

Need for organizations to hire matching traits

Before hiring any employee, the HR and recruitment panel must ensure that he or she is the right fix for the company according to its culture. Certain traits such as self-motivation, confidence and energy are a great fit for any type of job though there are other key traits that can be identified by the employer.

Buttoned up people may have a problem fitting in a company that is very creative and casual. Employees should be comfortable at the workplace so that their productivity can be high. It is also logic that the happier they get at work, the higher the chances of retention.

Insights

Recruitment strategy is equally important

An employee can either make or break an organization

Need for talent recruiting system.

Right attitude is expected of employees

Full disclosure of expectations when recruiting

A lesson from the business world in South Africa is that recruitment strategy is supposed to be treated same way as marketing and sales funnel. High quality employees are on high demand therefore the employers should move heaven and earth to accommodate, impress and receive their value.

Every employee added to a business can either propel it upwards or take it a step back. The same reason why incorporations like Google, SnapChat, Uber and Facebook have high option packages to attract the best talent in the world. Also, the right attitude is expected of employees so that the business can thrive and even make dramatic steps. In addition, while hiring, the employee should have their expectations and dreams of their company which they should make known to the candidates.
