Techopedia refers to RTO to be the maximum amount of time that can be allowed between the resumption of normal operations and the occurrence of the disaster and service levels. However, it does not exactly fix the recovery from disaster by the specific set date, but it helps to anticipate the longest possible required before recovery to normal operations resume. RTO is determined during the organization impact analysis exercise when figuring out business continuity plans. The recovery time objective is similar and goes hand in hand with the recovery point objective, defined as the amount of data with the potential of getting lost within a measured time.
The third site visited was duva.com from Google. It was an excellent medium between the two sites. The site emphasized both the RPO and the RTO but was not in-depth compared to the previous site.
Backup and recovery procedures used.
Sending by mail, the first step in the method was saving the lab assessment worksheet file in the local computer. It was followed by opening an email account by using the preferred browser on the computer. After email opening, a new email is composed and attached to the file; the email is then sent to the preferred secure email (Wong, 2020).
Saving to the cloud; the lab report document is first saved to the local computer. An email is opened by use of the preferred browser on the computer. The user should then click on the Google app icon and then navigate to drive. The file is uploaded on the new drive page. On the new pop-up window, the file is then located and uploaded to Google drive.
Recovery procedures
The first thing to do if a file is lost is by checking the email used to send the file. The lab report document can be recovered from the Google drive email account. The user should go to the email account and login using the preferred browser. Then, click on the Google apps icon and then drive to open the drive page window. The file should then be selected and downloaded to the computer and then saved to the preferred location.
Personal procedures using RTO
The procedure for returning operations to normal and data recovery includes a backup worksheet file to secure locations, recovering the file from an alternative source, and resuming operations within the shortest possible time.
Testing for backup and recovery procedures
I have managed to verify whether the file is safe or not by temporarily switching operations to an alternative site to open the backup source (Akulavenkatavara, 2016).
Ways to lower RTO
1. Keeping and writing the availability of detailed data recovery procedures
2. Documenting the recovery procedures for future reference
3. training the organizational employees on how to respond to crucial situations that can assist in lowering RTO by using the recovery procedure documentation.
