4. With all the information given, it is possible to make one pie chart showing the results of Major for all students combined. The counts have been found by multiply 361 by the percentage for each major, and they are summarized in the data set called “Gender and Major.xlsx” on Carmen. Use the data set to make a pie chart in Excel. Sketch the pie chart, and be sure to label everything clearly.

a. Make two separate appropriate graphs in EXCEL showing the two separate marginal distributions you can get from this table. Make sure the graphs are clearly labeled. Sketch them on your answer sheet and be ready to show them if your TA asks.
b. Interpret your results; one sentence per graph is fine.
7. Make a pie chart using EXCEL, which shows the conditional distribution of gender for those who are divorced . Label clearly. Interpret your results in a sentence or two.
8. Make an appropriate bar graph using EXCEL, which shows the conditional distribution of marital status for the males . Label clearly. Interpret your results in a sentence or two.
9. Make appropriate graph(s) IN EXCEL that show whether there is a relationship between gender and marital status. If you can put it all into one graph that would be nice; but not required. Label the name and type of distribution you are showing on your graph.
10. Based on your graphs, is there a relationship between gender and marital status? If so, what is the relationship? (Use the percentages to answer this. Note that if you are using the distribution for marital status you have 3 groups, so you must consider all 3 of them in your analysis, not just 2 of them.)

11. Using appropriate graphs and percentages (include them on the answer sheet), describe students’ smoking behavior based on their parents’ smoking behavior. Which variable should you break down the data by (student or parent)? Choose the variable that you think makes the results easiest to understand. Make sure you describe the relationship using percentages, and interpret the results in a way that a Lantern reader would be interested in.

Bob collected data on a random sample of 800 students who applied to a business program. His two variables were gender, and whether the person was admitted or denied admission to the program.
The data is found in the Excel file called BusinessAdmissions.xlsx, located in the recitation question section of Carmen.
Create a 2x2 table from this data.
Now creating tables and/or graphs of the appropriate marginal and/or conditional distributions, show there is a relationship between gender and whether a student was admitted or not. Use the methods shown in the previous problems as a guide. Then describe the relationship describe using percentages.
Your final answer should include: 1) table generated in Excel and copied on paper; 2) graphs and/or tables showing the appropriate distributions you are comparing to look for a relationship, using problems 1-10 as a model; 3) conclusion as to whether or not there is a relationship; and 4) if there is a relationship, describe it in words a non-statistician understands.
