(Rebecca Turner)The White House, Washington D.C.
The Hampton Palace, England.
The designer of The White house, which sits in Washington D.C. was James Hoban. The creation was done in the 1800’s after winning a contest. The White House took 8 years to be completed. It took from 1792 – 1800. In 1814, The White House caught fire which took 3 years to restore thereafter.
The White House is located on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C; otherwise known as the District of Columbia
I see the White House being inspired by The Parthenon; Acropolis located in Athens. I also see resemblance with the Hampton Court Palace, which is located in England. The structure of the beams. Above the triangular arch, there are lines and repetition. The multiple windows allow for more direct sunlight. The look with the pillars gives it a more elegant look to the design. The design for the curved roof is the keep the human eye looking up. I like how the pillars are placed centered to the two rows of three windows, but to the left and right there are two rows of four windows (at least in this picture). The pillars are designed to give the elegance and also scale the building.
The Ancient Greeks used their architecture as an art, that symbolized power and elegance but also the materials and placement with how and why they put things where they did. Because our nation’s capital, means so much to all of us, and because the district is symbolized as superior, we needed that strength to be put into these creations.
