Student A's post 1. Personally, I prefer viewing films in the comfort of my own rather than watching it at a

movie theater. To me, I feel more comfortable and less distracted in my house rather than a movie theater. Who knows, you might be seated next to a crying baby or a talker. When you are watching a film at home, you can easily pause, play back if you missed something, and you don’t need to pay as much.

2. One advantage of watching a film at the movie theater is certainly the experience you have. There are bigger screens, louder speakers as well as better quality films. Additionally, there is a surely a surrounding that makes it feel more real. Some disadvantages of viewing films at the theater includes the price, the location of the theater, may have distractions and you can’t really get up to get a snack without missing something from the movie. Advantages in regards to seeing films at home embraces being comfortable, relaxed, you can pause the movie, and it is definitely much cheaper. Disadvantages include not getting the same movie experience in a theater and probably a smaller screen and softer speakers.

3. I think theater-going has already started becoming obsolete and in the next decade will probably get worse. Individuals have found alternatives to movie theaters and would rather view films in their own homes. Since more revenue is earned through video release rather than box office receipts, theatergoing surely will start falling. However, some people certainly still like the movie theater experience and those individuals probably still would like to go. As movie tickets have increased in price, movie lovers don’t necessarily feel like it is worth it if you can wait a little longer and watch it in the comfort of your home.

4. One thing I think will enhance movie going in theaters is lowering the price. People don’t really want to spend $20 dollars on a movie and in addition pay extra for food and drinks. Theaters can maybe bring a promotion in such as “buy a movie ticket and get a free medium popcorn.” Also, something that I think would encourage individuals to watch in theaters is displaying movies that appeal to everyone. Additionally, I think

the commercials before the movie are completely unnecessary and certainly a waste of time.

Student B's post 1. I am the type of person who enjoys watching movies at home rather than viewing them

at a movie theater. This is mainly because of the full control aspect I have in my own home versus the theaters. Meaning, I could pause, rewind, or fast forward if I choose to do so. I am also able to lay in bed and just be in comfortable clothing sometimes. Furthermore, I do not have to deal with large crowds of people and lines in general. Any movie I want to watch can be found on the Internet, therefore it is not necessary for me to waste my time or money and go to the theaters. Although this is true, I still go to the movies every now and then.

2. One disadvantage of watching a film at home is that the movie you might want to see

is not available yet on DVD. The book also mentions how general rental kiosk companies must wait a certain amount of time after a movie has gone public before they can sell them (Campbell, Martin & Fobes p.238). These companies include Netflix and Redbox. However, a huge advantage with staying home is saving money. Nowadays going to the movies is an activity and thus treated like one. Rather than spend a huge amount at the movies with tickets and food, you can easily save money by watching a movie at home.

3. I think theatergoing will become obsolete in the next decade due to other popular

movie websites. So many people in today’s world have a Netflix or Hulu account on which they can watch unlimited movies for just $10 a month. Therefore, there is no reason for them to spend money at the theaters when they can easily watch something on one of those platforms. Not only will this help people save money, but now they can stay in the comfort of their homes and watch movies. The lack of ticket purchases will then lead to the loss of money for movie studios and their eventual extinction.

4. I believe that if a movie theater had better seating and service they would definitely

gain more attention. People want to be comfortable and relaxed when they watch a movie, therefore movie theaters must provide what the consumer wants. I also think if movie theaters charged less for tickets and food more people would go. With a price change and just a few minor adjustments, movie theaters could become prevalent again within society.
