EXAMPLE

Website: CPALMS

URL: https://www.cpalms.org/Public/

About:

They call themselves the official website for the state of Florida, however it is not run by the FDOE. It includes standards-based lesson plans that have been written vetted by professional educators.

Who is the owner, publisher, contributors, of this site?

Florida State University

What did you learn from their Mission Statement?

No specific Mission Statement, however they do state:

CPALMS provides access to thousands of standards-aligned, free, and high-quality instructional/educational resources that have been developed specifically for the standards and vetted through our rigorous review process. CPALMS also provides 16 state-of-the-art curriculum planning and professional development apps/tools to help educators effectively implement the standards. CPALMS was built primarily for Florida's educators but it transformed to a global resource with users from more than 200+ countries and territories around the world.

Do they have a FAQ page? If so, list 3 things you found interesting in their FAQ responses.

No

What is the primary focus of the site? (Curriculum? Classroom resources?

Social/Emotional development? Child development? Specific subject topics?)

Primary focus is on main domains: ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies. They also have resources for Dance, Gifted, Heath Ed, Music, PE, Theater, and Visual Arts

Subscription information? Free? Fee? What is the difference?

The resource is free

There does seem to be a special perk for those living in FL that can create an account with a FL school email address. When you create an account you can save resources, create calendars for lesson planning

Who is the audience? (Teachers? Parents? Students?) What information is available for each?

There are resources for all, however it is predominantly focused on teachers. They have a wonderful lesson plan and assessment bank, along with apps to help develop schedules and sharing resources with others. They also have a PD section where you can take self-paced online courses that will provide a certificate for your certification hours.

Do they have a blog? If so, read 1 topic you found interesting and share what you learned.

No blog

Do they have video resources? If so, what did you find interesting about the topics covered?

They have a wide variety of video tutorials for parents, students, and teachers. All range from PD’s, to lessons for students, to explaining content to parents

Do they have a presence on Facebook? If so, what resources can you find there?

They do but it is minimal and not a great resource for materials.

What other resources do they offer teachers?

Professional Development for recertification hours

What did you find to be a downside of this site?

I don’t think it is easy to navigate. Because it is free, there is most likely not much resources dedicated to making it a little more user-friendly. Remembering how you got some place can be challenging, so having an account where you can save resources is a good idea. However, as with anything, the more you use it the easier it will be to navigate.

Showcase 3: Write 1 paragraph about 3 resources you found very interesting/meaningful that you want to share with others. Explain what you learned, why you chose this tidbit to share, why you think this information will be helpful for you and your colleagues in your career

1. Under the About CPALMS tab, there is a link to the bank of video tutorials that show you how to use all of the features of CPALMS. Currently, the site hosts 52 videos. I think this is an important feature as the site has so many resources and can be a little complex to navigate. These videos are quick to watch and make navigating the site much easier.

2. Standards-based lesson plans. Great tool to show how to create specific lesson plan from standards.

2 paths:

Standards > ELA > Grade _______ > Strand _______ > Cluster ________ > Standard _______ > choose a lesson plan

Resources > Filter by: subject, grade, audience, type

(ELA, 2, Educators, lesson plans)

3. They have a sub site called www.FloridaStudents.org  Student Tutorials is a collection of interactive online lessons created specifically for the standards. These tutorials are designed to be used directly by students. These tutorials can be assigned as remediation, enrichment, or review during independent work time.
