The article that I chose for my article discussion post was an article from The Washington Post, titled “Nearly Half of Americans Support Impeaching Trump, Two New Polls Find” by. Scott Clement and Felicia Sonmez. This article discusses about how there has been a rise in registered voters who want President Trump impeached and that the numbers of registered voters who want him impeached has increased in about 10% over the last week, spanning from September 16th, 2019 to September 30th, 2019 bringing the new total of registered voters who want Trump impeached to 47% as of now based on a poll ran by the Quinnipiac University. Another Poll was ran by CNN released on September 30th 2019, showing that there’s been a 41% increase since May when they ran their last poll on the subject.

The article also discusses about how one day before the release of the surveys ran by CNN and Quinnipiac University, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told her colleagues that public sentiment had started to begin to swing around. This is important, because this is a topic that she had frequently cited as an obstacle to pursuing impeachment, which has caused the polls to change drastically as shown in the paragraph above.

Reviewing the polls ran the Quinnipiac University Poll was conducted by them calling registered voters trying to reach them by either landlines or cellphones where they reached a total of 1,337 registered voters for this survey. As for the CNN survey, they conducted a random national sample of 1,009 adults, not necessarily all registered voters, but still surveyed people all old enough to vote.

I chose this article, because I am all for the impeachment of President Trump. Just recently I had started hearing about how he might be impeached so I chose this one specifically just to see how many people feel the same way about the situation. Honestly, I wish the amount of people who do want him impeached was over 50%, so there would be more of a chance of it actually happening, but 47% is still pretty good, for us at least, not so good for him, but it’s really own fault that he’s in this situation. Personally I’ve never been a fan of the guy, but I also should’ve voted, so now I know and next time I’m going to vote for the person I’d rather have in office.

I have chosen the article titled “Climate Town Hall: Democrats Lay Out Their Trillion-Dollar Plans” from The New York Times. The article explains how 10 candidates from the democratic party are promising to take action on climate change by spending trillions of dollars towards promoting renewable energy and taxing companies that cause carbon pollution. These people were influenced by Jay Inslee, the governor of Washington, who dropped out of the race last month, but is now replaced by the Senator of California, Kamala Harris, who vows to continue his actions against climate change. She’s already working on getting laws passed to ban offshore oil and gas drilling, plastic straws, and other related earth damaging factors. I’m happy to see the work they’re putting towards climate change because our climate was very out of whack last year. I’m pretty sure it only rained twice last year. If we can at least get rid of those carbon pollution factories and replace them with natural energy sources, like how houses and schools are installing solar panels, then I feel like that would help a lot.

In my discussion I will be talking about climate change and how its always been a huge issue. But now it’s becoming more and more common because more candidates and people in general are speaking up about it. In the article it stated that, “10 candidates — the same ones who will participate in the next debate on Thursday — said addressing climate change would be one of their top priorities in office.” This is huge compared to last election I personally did not really hear anything about climate like I do right now.  Some candidates like Bernie Sanders called for an expansive $16 trillion program to combat climate change. There has also been a lot of environmental justice especially in people of color and in low income communities. Especially because they get hit with extreme weather and they can’t really get help or do anything about it.

There are many candidates that want to have all communities and all people no matter who you are or where you live to be equal. This is a goal I believe everyone wants in this world but some people are very cruel and don’t care about the next person. Many different candidates are proposing different things. For an example, “Senator Kamala Harris of California proposed a $10 trillion increase in climate spending over a decade. Ms. Harris, a former prosecutor, said she would maximize the power of the legal system to punish corporate polluters and deliver “climate justice” to the poor communities that are suffering disproportionately.” Also she is just one of many that are shown in the article that will be contributing to help our world with climate change. Other topic that also popped up in the article was abortion and also birth control and how Sanders agree to this term and how women should have the freedom of doing whatever they would like with there bodies.

First of all, my opinion on all of this is pretty normal but also I am in shock that all of sudden we are scared for our world. The way I think is that we should have been taking care of our home called earth a long time ago. I personally dislike that suddenly all these candidates are all talking about climate change. The reason why is because everyone is talking about it and it’s a very popular topic at the moment. Also the candidates want votes so they obviously have to be with the people. Overall I am happy that they are using there platform for climate change but why did it take so long to talk about this?

Secondly, I personally think abortion is a very tricky subject to be talking about overall. The way I view it is women in general should have the freedom of doing whatever they want with their bodies. No one should tell them otherwise because they don’t know how it is or how they are feeling. I dont know why all of sudden it has been an issue about abortion because it has been happening for quite some time now. Overall I really enjoyed this article because it spoke about everything that is happening right now. It is very raw and straight to the point and it had many points that I really enjoyed reading.

I have chosen the article “Trump and California See Same Homeless Problem, but Not the Same Solutions.” During a fund-raiser in San Francisco which President Trump attended he noted the massive amounts of homeless on the street. While those who would normally disagree with the President, there were some who found themselves seeing eye to eye with him. While the homeless population has risen tremendously, there are also many protesters as well as politicians that are in agreement that Trump’s sudden interest of the issue is simply to score “political points.” On the other hand, he is failing to see that the Department of Housing and Urban Development are making preparations to forfeit public housing which can turn about 55,000 children and citizens onto the streets which can cause for a larger amount of homeless. While the President is slamming the homeless community as well as their way of living, Scott Weiner who is a Democratic State Senator from San Francisco stated, “Donald Trump is a slumlord who has spent his presidency pushing people into homelessness by taking away health care, food assistance and affordable housing funds.” Taking that into consideration a report from the Council of Economic Advisers reported that California is housing approximately 12 percent of homeless individuals, with them blaming the states policies for the issue. There have also been 59 lawsuits filed against the Trump administration pertaining to health care and environmental policies. Although President Trump did not make much of a comment on how he will resolve the homeless issue, he was eager to raise 15 million dollars while in Northern California for other purposes.

This article caught my attention rather quickly because we do have a large homeless population in California and not many people are doing anything about it to help. Living in Riverside and driving to Los Angeles from time to time it is astonishing how many people you see on the streets or in tents trying to survive day to day. Instead of criticizing them or bashing them for their way of living, the government can try to help those who are in need or willing to take the help offered. I understand whereTrump is coming from when he sees all of the homeless in the street, but instead of making rash statements on how they are polluting our cities, he should do something about it.

For my article I chose one from The Washington Post by Ellen Nakashima. This article is about how the acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire has been told to turn over a whistleblower complaint or he will face public questioning by Congress. In the article Adam B Schiff explains that he subpoenaed Maguire for the complaint, saying that he is violating whistleblower law by not having turned it over earlier. Schiff claims he is unable to discuss the complaints content. The complaint was submitted to the Inspector General Michael Atkinson on August 12th, Atkinson reviewed the complaint and determined it was credible. He then submitted it to Maguire who had seven days to transmit the complaint and the inspector general’s determination to Congress.

Maguire consulted the Justice Department about the complaint, the Justice Department denied to comment. “On Friday the office of the Director of National Intelligence sent a letter to Schiff asserting that because the complaint involves “confidential” and “potentially privileged communications” by one or more people outside the intelligence community, the director lacks authority to send the complaint to the intelligence committees, a committee aide said.”

This article is of interest because I believe it shifts political agenda. Whistleblower law is supposed to hold individuals anonymous, yet there is no where in this article to say how Schiff became aware of the whistleblower complaint let alone that the complaint was not submitted to the committee with in the given timeframe. Even though Maguire did not submit the complaint in the given timeframe he consulted the Justice Department making me believe that the complaint lies outside the scope of his department.

Schiff publicly assumes that the complaint is about the President or people around him and voices that on national news. How is it that the chairman of the house intelligence committee can go on national news and try to intimidate the Director of National Intelligence into turning over the complaint without having any evidence to provide his accusations of it involving the President or those around him. I am curious what is going to happen if Maguire does not turn over the complaint by the end of their deadline since it seems like he is trying to review the complaint with other departments like the Justice Department in order to sort out any other information with the complaints credibility.
