Reading reflection 2
‘Words of fire’ presents a situation that had been the case since the advent of ill-treatment of women in the world. The authors of the collection of articles bring forward the unfortunate state of affairs for women in times before the late nineteenth century. The message is bound to get to the contemporary world, reminding us of historical mistakes we should avoid slipping back to. The piece of writing was done in the middle of the nineteenth century. To say the least, during the historical times mentioned in the writing, women were subjected to all manner of torture ranging from physical abuse to psychological by being subjected to disturbing experienced and being often reminded that they are second class citizens.
The authors focus on the problem of social inequality, where despite the achievements of feministic advocacy groups, black women still bore the blunt side of discrimination in the face a changing world. This is even made worse by the fact that their white counterparts had begun getting fair treatment in the social realm. The problem the authors present relates to women and all those who were disturbed by the unfortunate fate facing omen. The authors target the modern women, the government and other policy-making bodies as well as academicians who would use the text to interpret contemporary phenomena. The authors cite the interference of the reproductive lives of slave women while working in their masters’ plantations, the discrimination of black women in securing employment opportunities as well as the disregard for their womanhood even by assuming that the rights of the blacks were enough to cater for the women in the then society.
This reading made me understand with great depth the horrifying things I have heard of the whites towards the blacks. In fact, I have realized the mistake the world made when it generalized the rights of the black women and by equating them to the rights of the slaves. A black woman was expected to rise in equal competition with a black man under the then ‘superior white race’. I would, however, have wished to have the reactions of the white race dominated regime by then only to understand the level of contempt and inhumanity that the whites had towards the black race. Secondly, I would request the authors to state facts as they were and avoid using more civil language in describing the experiences. This would make, we, the readers have a vivid picture of what transpired and feel with the authors.
There before, I did not realize that the world’s end of slavery was not just enough and that we needed to do more, help the black woman to rise past the limitations subjected to her by her circumstance. Secondly, did not have the accurate picture of the ills that were subjected to women in these times, I had a shallow understanding that had no details like those that are provided in the reading. These new revelations are as a result of the inadequacies of the majority of the existing literature and the notion that blacks demand too much having done too little. This reading helps one develop a clearer understanding of social injustices in the historical context by providing tangible evidences.
Summary of the Readings

They have managed to secure top positions in the American political and other sections of public service. The move taken by the feminist to express their hardship and also expose the challenges they have been through creates an important part of their history and the history of America. However, it’s quite understandable how women decided and managed to create the feminism image about themselves and on their own. But even though they try to manage that, they are as well affected internally that yields to depression among others.

I learned about the affairs of black women in women in the nineteenth century. During that time women were tortured both psychologically and physically. Black women faced discrimination and social inequality. Racism is a major problem even in today’s world. Policies and laws need to be made to protect black people against discrimination and unequal opportunities. In addition, I also learned that despite the end of slavery, black women need help so that they can be able to rise above their limitation. Black women fight for equal opportunities both in school and at the workplace. In addition, I also learned the challenges that black women face. One of the major challenges that black Americans face is discrimination. I learned that most people are discriminated due to their sex, race, religion, and social class. Other challenges that black American also experience hard labor, poor pay, and poor medical services. Black people also face oppression. If women are given the right resources, then they will be able to use their talent efficiently and effectively. Black women are not given the opportunity to explore their area of interest. Moreover, I learned that black people have to fight tough battles to show society what they are able to do. Black people deserve to be given equal opportunities in school and at the workplace. Today, equal opportunity laws have been implemented to give the black women an opportunity to explore and use their talent as well as show others what they are capable of doing. Some of the black women who have emerged to fight for the rights of black women include Lupita Nyongo. The main challenges that black women faced is discrimination. People of a different race should be given equal opportunities in school and at the workplace. I also learned some of the black people that have contributed to change, for example, Ella Baker. In addition, I also learned that to deal with discrimination the government has implemented and created laws that protect people against discrimination.
Reading Reflection
Issues of special black feminism learning pedagogies and special thinking by the victims of racial bias and segregation are addressed The articles remind readers the social-cultural injustices subjected to black females based on their social class and skin complexion. Although written in the postmodern era, the authors address the psychological pains inflicted on the females of color even after the general notion that we are living in a socially fair society. Such a situation limits the potential of black females, denying them an equal chance for progression with their white counterparts.
Black feminism relates to all women who feel weighed down by the current social arrangement which tends to suggest that they are second class citizens or humans. The racial tag has silenced most of the identities of the female people of color with most of them feeling shy of who they are (Hill p.6). The situation also features in predominantly white institutions, PWI, where blacks feel intimidated by whites and perception has developed in them that they come second. Here, the instructional frameworks in learning institutions do not take into consideration the historical issues that have curved the current identities and the fate of black women (Barbara p.4). This discussion has, however, a philosophical direction, the question of whether the black movement is still an oppositional movement and as visionary as it was in the last century. One of the articles suggests that the movement, given the needed attention, is a visionary course that would positively shape the lives of future generations (Julie p.5).
I highly regard the readings based on the evidence they have tabled and their ability to influence intellectual thinking and liberate our race and especially the female gender. First, the article on how to survive in a predominantly white institution if you are queer black or woman provides strong insights that would help the black population navigate through the institutions. The author advice back females to resist destructive criticism while at the same time being open to social ties with those perceived as superior (Perry). I find them helpful in my academic life and in case I was to secure a job in environments that have low regard for the blacks. The other three articles provide a deeper perspective on this subject and will be crucial when I will be doing my research on the topic by the end of this course. For instance, the article that addresses the aspect of the need for the strengthening of black feminism learning pedagogies will be a good source of knowledge on the historical perspectives of the education status of the blacks.
Reading these articles have introduced me to new knowledge, the acknowledgment that black feminism is not merely a political movement aimed at consoling black women and causing drama in streets. According to the new knowledge, the movement is a visionary initiative with a philosophical basis and with the motive of bettering the lives of those that are socially marginalized. The occurrence of this difference could be due to the subtle propaganda gradually leveled against the movement that has seen it branded as supporting crime by blacks. I am however of the suggestion that the black feminism learning pedagogies be abandoned as it will further entrench divisions and suspicion between races. These readings have advanced the class readings on the need for social equality and fairness with the aim of regarding all people as fully human and free to access all the opportunities that life presents
The articles mainly explains how black women have engaged in politics since the early twentieth century. The article was written in the year 2017. In the early twentieth century, black women were fighting for their freedom. The main problem was black women did not have freedom, therefore, they were fighting for universal black liberation. I think the topic is important for both black and white people and society. The author gives examples of people like Gordon, and De Mena who continued to fight for the dignity and rights of black people. I liked the fact that the author analyzes the problems and challenges that black women faced in the twentieth century. The reading connects to my course since I was able to learn the challenged of black women and their fight for freedom. The video “The Black women’s Defense League” mainly focuses on the threats that black women face due to their color. The video was made at a time where black women were being killed by their fellow black people. This topic is meant for any black woman facing the threat of being killed. A group was formed to empower black women. The common goal of the group is black liberation. The speaker says that every 19 hours a black woman is killed by a man. In addition, the group teaches a black woman how to fight back. From the video, I like the fact that black women are empowering each other. I learned that social programs were meant to empower black women. I also learned that Black Women Defense league are not only helping black women but they are supporting people by giving them food and free lunch. They also provide support for people in the community. Wakanda is a movie that mainly talks about black people. It was released in 2018. Black women go through violence and sexism from black men. The topic is important because it creates awareness of some of the challenges that black women face. The author talks about the fight against black freedom. I liked the fact that the author addressed the struggles that black women face on a daily basis. The author does this by explaining the Wakanda movie. In addition, I realized that black people are still looking for a revolution. Feminism and black nationalism mainly focuses on feminism and black nationalism. In the united states, most of the black women are not employed. They also get the lowest paying jobs. One of the major problem facing black women is sexism. The topic is important for society because it explains some of the challenges that black people face especially women. From the article, I have learned that for there to be the liberation of black women from sexism the system has to be changed. The reading connects to my course because it explains the challenges that black women go through. “The Era of the Hotep Must End” mainly focuses on Hotepery. Black men who are hoteps need to support their fellow black people who are dying and fighting for their freedom. I think that black people should support each other in the fight for freedom. I have learned that self-determination in the 60s was important for the black power movement. Hotepery mainly deals with black nationalism without black liberation. This article connects to my course since it deals with the era of Hotep that mainly involve black nationalization and freedom.
