Art 3_Renaissance to Contemporary Instructions for reading response -‐ Due October 21stth by 11:59pm. Submit on Turnitin. **This is an opportunity for critical feedback on your writing before the art analysis is due** Written response to a selected artwork. Please select a single artwork from the images provided on Canvas.
• Required length: minimum 2 pages double-‐spaced. Maximum 2½ pages. • Write about a single artwork selected from the images provided on Canvas. • I am looking for your critical thinking and formal analysis on a single artwork. No
comparisons of artworks. • No more than two single sentence quotes from the textbook or other secondary source. • Must include in-‐text citations and works cited page for all source material, including
textbook. • Original thoughts only. Please, no plagiarism. See syllabus for class policy on
plagiarism. • Use Artstor to assist with your research. Do an image search and look closer at some of
the elements
There are no prompts. Formally analyze the content and compositional elements of an artwork form the images available on Canvas. Select a single artwork to focus on. No essays focused on direct comparisons of two or more artworks are permitted. **Most important in this assignment is to focus on an idea or critical element about the selected artwork, and support your thoughts with description of compositional elements (organization, line, color, light, space, etc.)** Consider some of the following as you look at your selected artwork: the gaze of the figure and where the viewer is located in relation to the work; how the philosophy of Humanism might affect the work; how religion or regional style affects the artwork; and what are the ways that artists move past the stylistic elements of the Renaissance. Please note: Formal art analysis involves the detailed description of compositional elements in a work of art to support your ideas. Describe elements as if the person reading the essay cannot see the work of art. Not sure what to write about? Experiencing problems with analyzing artwork? Take advantage

Due October 21st on Turnitin by 11:59pm. Please note: points are deducted for responses that do not meet the aforementioned requirements.
• Please Note: Response is due on time to potentially receive full credit. • Late responses receive a 10% deduction for every 24 hours they are late (including
later that day, holidays and weekends). No exceptions. For example, a response submitted at midnight on October 21st is considered late.
• Instructions to create a Turnitin account can be found in “Class Resources and Support” and in week two assignments.
Presentation of reading responses: Format: MLA format. The computerized typing must be as follow: accepted fonts Times New Roman, Helvetica, Cambria, Calibri; only 12 points in character; standard margins of 1” top and bottom and 1” left and right. Make sure to include name, instructor name, course, and date on the upper, left side of the essay.
