Groups 5-10 Chapter 8: Documents 1-2 and 8-15

Questions to answer:

1. (in your notebook) Each group you read about is feeling anxiety or loss over a change. Please (1a) Identify that change (1b) Describe what outcomes they think will come from that change.

• The groups in Chapter 8 are: Mexicans/Tejanos, Texans, and Americans

• The groups in Chapter 10 are: Irish immigrants, German immigrants, Native-born Americans and Chinese immigrants

2. (In your notebook) How do these documents illuminate the prevalent xenophobia (aka the intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries) during the Age of Expansion? Provide specific examples, not generalities.

Everyone reads pages 229-231

In your group, split up the following document groupings: 6 and 7 Each group member must read two documents.

1. (In your notebook) Write a 3-sentence summary for two documents. Please identify which document you are summarizing.

2. (In your notebook) Do you think the Civil War could have ended without the end of slavery?

Lesson-15

Everyone reads pages 251-254.

In your groups split up the following documents:

Document 1 (pages 255-256), 2 (257-258), 3 (258-261) 5 (265-267).

Every group member must read two documents. It is okay that some of them will be doubled up.

Answer the following :

1.(in your notebooks) How did Reconstruction help to form the Ku Klux Klan (KKK)? Or (stated in another way) In what ways was the formation of the KKK a result of Reconstruction?

2. (in your notebooks) What actions did the KKK take to restrict the new found freedoms of African Americans?
