Frederick Douglass Reaction Paper

Instructions: at this point you should've completed The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave. You will be responsible for writing a two-page reaction paper. You should include a brief summary of the events in the book, a discussion of the major themes of the book and finally your evaluation of the book.

Summary: In no more than two paragraphs, briefly highlight the most important events in the Life of Douglass, as mentioned in the book. (Note: the summary portion should be the shortest section, around a half of a page).

Themes: think about the overall message (or messages) of the book; explain to the reader those themes and provide evidence directly from the text. For example, if you think that ‘equality’ was a major theme, find a quote or two to support that idea.

Evaluation: Describe the impact that the book had on you. Decide if the book challenged your ideas, effected you emotionally or intellectualism; if so, in what ways. Finally, explain why this book is (or is not) valuable. Here you can also comment on the style, and discuss whether it worked for you.
