Student A's post

1. I personally don't read from printed newspapers often, and am not so interested in reading the current events off a paper when I could easily just scroll through pages of news online. However, I can understand how people who do prefer reading from a print newspaper like my Dad, find it relaxing. In our society today, almost every activity we do in our daily lives requires looking at or using some sort of electronic device, so reading the news off of printed paper could be an escape from staring at our laptops and phones all day.It is a horrible addiction that we all struggle with today, and has also been proven to be dangerously unhealthy. Not only are phones and laptops bad for you're health, but they are the number 1 form of procrastination in my opinion. It easily distracts me from doing my work, and I could go hours without even noticing how much time would fly by. Another thing I noticed that could make newspapers more exciting to my Dad and big brother rather than reading the LA Times online is the different titles of articles and pictures which grab the readers attention in a way that is not achievable by clicking on an online article. Due to how easily distracted we could be when reading the news online, having a paper increases the experience of being able to focus on the significantly important current news to know what's happening in our world. Unfortunately, media today is corrupt in the sense where rumors and fake news are spread throughout the internet. This type of negative attention makes it crucial for us readers to pay attention to what articles were reading and the details such as it's sources. Even though it's easier to read between the lines and headings rather than the details to be able to determine for yourself what you think is right, it is not the right way to become more educated about current events. This is why reading a newspaper article from a trustworthy source is better than reading from a few online articles that are not as reliable. All in all, both experiences of reading newspapers and online news are spreading the word about current events today, which is the right overall goal.

2. I 100% believe that tablets and other forms of technological devises such as laptops or computers with eventually replace the printed newspaper. Today, the modern world of technology is advancing at such a fast pace that it's easy to predict the future will consist of all these electronics. Already, the use in newspapers has unfortunately decreased a tremendous amount, because of how conveniently accessible it is to download free apps or search online news articles rather than paying the price of a paper newspaper.

Student B's post

1. I feel that the biggest problem in our society today is the insane amount of information that we absorb every minute of our lives. We are mentally trained to not believe certain things (something that I talked about in earlier discussion posts about the internet) because we see so much information that has the potential to be false. Additionally, I think that our society cannot appreciate the moment… We always look to the future and think that newer things will be better, we always look to upgrade. It is the reason that rumors for next year’s iPhone generally come out just a few weeks after the current years is released. The reason I say this in regards to a newspaper is that people do not feel that newspapers are current. Media sources and news organizations fight to be the first people to report something. This has allowed news websites to release their information before the paper is set up, printed, then distributed. Being able to read a newspaper online makes it much more accessible to people of all locational living spaces.

2. I think that tablets and the internet have already replaced the newspaper. And, as much as there is a pleasure involved in reading the news from a paper, people like to know that their news is current. Another thing to think about is that nowadays, people are reading their news online – and not only is it more reassuring to know that the news is current and can be deleted or updated if anything changes, but it is also a whole lot more economically friendly and financially friendly for the reader. It used to cost some money to get the news every day. Whether it be a 50 cents or a dollar, reading the news every day can add up to an amount of money that may be substantial in someone’s life – and I am not a believer that one’s financial situation should impact whether or not they read the news. I think it is a fundamental right to know what is happening because the news affects everyone’s lives. As long as the news companies still make their money, which they do through ads and such, and it is better environmentally, and it makes it more accessible to everyone, I am having a hard time understanding why it could not go down this path.
