Project Description

For this project, you will be expected to choose a controversial topic about which you feel strongly. You will then conduct research to find a minimum of three resources that support your opinion. In other words, if you felt that spanking a child is wrong, your paper would be centered around that topic. You would write a two-page paper (two FULL pages) telling your opinion on how spanking a child is wrong, and you would use pieces of information from each of your three research articles throughout your persuasive paper that support your view.

Example:

To spank or not to spank—that is the question. Many parents in today’s society struggle with this choice when considering the best way to discipline their children. With so many other forms of discipline, why would a parent resort to spanking? The American Psychiatric Association even says that children who are spanked show an increase in behaviors, such as aggression, problems with mental health, and issues with social interaction (Smith 60). Therefore, it is obvious that spanking a child is one of the worst forms of discipline.

Project Requirements

This project will have two graded parts:

1) Project Preparation, which includes finding valid and reliable research to support your viewpoint, developing an outline, writing and submitting paragraphs 1 & 2 by the due date, visiting the tutoring center AT LEAST once during the preparation phase, and turning in your rough draft by the due date.

2) Final Draft, which includes in-text citations and a works cited page; a coherent introduction, body, and conclusion; correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Look on D2L for the rubric for each of these components, and use your course calendar to make sure you know the due date for each of these components.
