Raw Materials Self-Assessment

INTRODUCTION

This document is a raw-materials assessment of myself. This assessment will be used to

determine general aspects of my personality and traits, my strengths, aspiring traits and strengths,

interests, beliefs and principles, and the positive and negative aspects of my personality. With these

document, I can record aspects of my person where I can then use the information to accurately access

and improve negative or lacking aspects of myself. Doing so can afford me better tactics of self-

promotion and conduct in the future.

RAW MATERIALS

Strengths

I like to believe I’m fairly aware of my strengths, those ranging from personality traits to specific

skills and talents. I believe myself well educated with a firm grip of self and reality; I’m an artist who

fancies the fantastical (mostly); and have a strong disposition to music within my day-to-day life. While I

do prefer the calm and quite of being isolated from others, I have no problems engaging social situations

regardless of setting (workplace, school, function, etc.).

To evaluate my strengths, I used the link provided within the Assignment: Find Your Strengths.

Strengths Assessment

Scores

As shown, I have a clear favor to music as part of my person. I enjoy many genres of music

ranging from Classical Orchestras (of the likes of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and many

others); to Modern Scores (John Williams, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Tomas Bergeson,

Thomas Vo, and others); and various Rock, EDM, and World genres.

Though, most of the results I do find rather accurate except that of math. According to the site I

used to generate these results, I’m not very logical, an odd assessment as I’m an engineering student. To

be fair, this is due to logic being factored as ‘math’ in the questionnaire.

Potential Strengths

My potential strengths are some which I find a bit conflicting and hard to define. Ideally, a

potential strength is an aspect of one’s self which can be improved overtime, typically through practice.

A problem I have with ‘potential strengths’ as a concept being many of mine are due to reasons which I

literally cannot affect. In fact, many of my faults are contributed directly to these reasons and/or

limitations.

Some of my potential strengths include being less reserved, being more alert, being more

sensitive to others, and others as mentioned in the Faults and Bad Habits section of this report.

Regardless of the facts, most of my potential strengths are held back by a lack of descent memory, that

being a biological limitation I have no control over.

Faults and Bad Habits

As described in the previous section, many of my negatives are limited by a lack of fair memory (not

all, mind you).

These were results from the 16Personalities.com site upon being declared as a Logician personality type. These faults are much I struggle with on a day-to-day basis. In many cases I do tend to favor being alone as I’ve concluded many individuals to be not worth the time of associating with. Because of this, I’m very prone to being inconsiderate of their views and responses. Often when dealing with these

individuals, I tend to space-out absent-mindedly especially during long drawn conversations. Lacking proper attention to the points or view presented, I’d condescendingly disregard their efforts, regardless of any rules or implied guidelines to the setting/function/nature of the conversation. Its only after realizing that I’m being a jerk throughout the situation is when I second-guess myself and attitudes towards said individual.

Yes, I am playing to some of my strengths by demonstrating the previous paragraph (that being the writing).

However, I am aware of other faults which may be more specific to myself rather than a generalized assumption of an entire personality type. For instance, I can be abrasive even during times where it may be inappropriate; I’m only impatient when I want to be; is easily upset by simple mistakes found in big budget mediums, gets little to no sleep (this is more of a habit if anything); and some others.

Interests and Desires

After taking the Strength Assignment and the 16Personalities.com questionnaire, I’ve come to

discover some of the strengths also constitute as interests. The largest examples being the Musical and

social affiliations. I’ve heard many individuals like myself (mainly introverts and engineering students),

often listen to music throughout most of their outings; outside of classrooms, work spaces, and similar

activities and locations. In fact, I partake in music so much I’ve begun writing and composing music of

my own, delving in many genres of music I already enjoy.

As shown, I enjoy music quite a lot, usually I have music playing while I engage tasks (both

hobbies and otherwise). People who often aren’t delving into music in this fashion would consider the

act of always being ‘plugged-in” to be an attempt to seclude one’s self from the world… which

admittedly for myself, isn’t an untrue assumption.

‘Self’ Personality

In all honesty, I’ve always had difficulties defining my personality in relation to others, so I

figured it necessary to take a personality test to gain some sort of unbiased and third-party evaluation of

self. The source I used was 16Personalities.com; in which I completed a questionnaire consisting of one

hundred questions, and upon completion I find the results rather interesting.

According to the site, my personality is rare and makes up roughly 3% of the world’s known

personality types (out of 16 apparently). This makes me feel very good as being considered ‘part of the

norm’ is something I greatly distain. Furthermore, I find the descriptions of the Logician personality type

to be intriguing for many reasons, one of which beings it’s uncanny accuracy of my person as is various

zodiac descriptions of Taurus (Greek) and Dragon (Asian/Chinese) (I’m both of these).

Core Values

Core values, as described by 16Personalities.com, are those which should range widely for each

individual (as pertaining to Logician personalities) yet are values one could easily assume are consistent

between these persons. Its suggested we logicians are confident in our talents, intelligence, and abilities

to analyze and define the world around us logically. These aspects affect me both positively and

negatively, often causing me lack enthusiasm over concepts others may find appealing or forces me to

dislike medias which millions of others seem to enjoy immensely.

Furthermore, our need to analyze every bit of information causes negative social responses and

behaviors to arise. For example: Many persons in neighborhood’s community group seem to really love

the show Rick and Morty. One day, the show’s intelligence (how its portrayed and represented) was

brought up with most group members allotting positives to the series. I voiced my disposition to their

assessment and am now viewed in a negative light because of it. This wasn’t due to my needing to be

right about the judgment of the show, it was my need to disregard the opinions of others to push my

own. I care deeply for good writing in many aspects, and I expect a production company with ludicrous

financial backing to employee and implement good writers among the staff. Unfortunately, in my

opinion, many of these production companies don’t have such writers on hire, and I’m somewhat

offended when I see such poor writing in medias presented to the globe, especially with those medias

with millions of fans and viewers, exhibiting what I’d deem below a fourth-grade writing level. I’ve

written better materials for a mass viewership, for free, that were better than most writings I see in

today’s media.

While I could go into many aspects of my principles, I guess the most important to me is

fairness. I’ve naively wanted the world to be a fair one, a world where people who have the skills and/or

talent coupled with the effort to make their ideas tangible would be those who’d get the corresponding

opportunities. While this may be a delusional belief to some, it’s one I held for quite some time as it

does give me some inkling of hope.

SYNTHESIS AND SUMMARY

In summary, I seem to have a rare personality which is highly desired within my field of study,

that being engineering. This coupled with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn new information, a need

to analyze new perspectives and ideas, and a skill and talent set to imagine and create new and

fantastical worlds makes me someone whose primed to make great strides in my education and career.

Despite all this, I still have substantial traits and behaviors which need refinement.

MAR4354 Students, this is a general “good” example of a

Raw Assessment. You will notice that several items have

been blocked out by blue rectangles- you don’t need to

review the whole student’s paper to get an idea of how you

should tackle your own personal (and original) assessment.

A summary provides a highlight of important points

demonstrating an understanding of the overall meaning of a

document (basically a recap). A synthesis addresses some

important points, but may also include details as you draw

conclusions. It may combine and contrast data from

different resources. It relays understanding, but also

provides a new perspective. What does it mean? Why are

these findings important to you? This section should be

approximately 2-3 paragraphs.

The Synthesis and Summary provided below is an excellent example from another previous student.

Notice this Panther reintroduces a subject from earlier in the Raw Materials Assessment, such as

results from the personality test, and explains why this is important moving forward in their career.

This writing also explains how the different assessment categories interact with one another. This

section of your assignment should include BOTH components of summary and synthesis.

III. SYNTHESIS AND SUMMARY In summary, by determining my own personal raw materials, I have provided an

opportunity to begin developing my personal brand. My ENFJ-T personality established I am a

natural-born leader given my optimistic, resourceful, and charismatic attributes. My social and

logic/math intelligence provides me with the ability to learn from others and think critically.

Although I have many faults, my strengths and desires have the potential the overcome them. My

core values of enthusiasm, kindness, growth, and adventure serve to guide me through life and

help me grow.

With an understanding of my raw materials, it is important to synthesize the results to

draw conclusions and provide a new perspective. With an ENFJ-T personality type, Judging as

my Tactical attribute indicates that I am decisive, but this contradicts the Protagonist personality

trait of struggling to make decisions. To explain this contradiction, the former refers to work,

planning, and decision making in a professional environment, while the latter reflects the social

repercussions of decision making. Those with a Protagonist personality are natural born leaders

who communicate effectively in front of an audience, which serves as motivation to develop my

potential strength of public speaking.

My fear of confrontation regarding interpersonal conflicts is a fault that conflicts with my

charisma. My openness and warmth cause people to be attracted to me, only to be let down by

my inability to confront personal conflicts. By letting people down, I go against my core value of

kindness, for I am not being considerate to the other person. This also poses a threat to my

potential strength of communication.

My core value of Enthusiasm / Positive Attitude can be further developed by my strength

of optimism. If I am able to hold a firm belief for the success of my desired outcome, this core

value will help to achieve my goals. However, this can be inhibited by my faults of fluctuating

self-esteem and being too sensitive. In the situation where my desired outcome was not achieved,

it will negatively impact my self-esteem which will have an impact on my attitude. Harsh

criticism could also affect my attitude due to my sensitivity, but this can turn into an opportunity

to better myself through innovation.

My core value of Growth / Continuous Learning is in line with many of my strengths,

such as curiosity and innovation. These strengths will enable me to generate new ideas and

develop new interests as I develop this core value. This core value is also demonstrated in the

identity aspect and the energy aspect of the personality assessment – I am a turbulent individual

who is success-driven and eager to improve, as well as an intuitive individual who is

imaginative, open-minded, and curious. The synergy between the core value, strengths, and

personality traits serves as a perfect framework to develop my personal brand as I move towards

building the “product you.”

Always consider your audience when creating products or assignments and with this, make

them attractive and apply your best work. Here is an excerpt from another student’s work that
