1. Paper is an original research paper utilizing a method from rhetoric, communication theory, or performance studies.

10 = meets criteria

0 = does not meet

2. Paper includes appropriate points:  introduction, literature review or background, theory or method, results or analysis, implications or discussion, and a conclusion.

20 = outstanding execution of all points

15 = competent execution of all points

10 = one area not addressed effectively or new information in the conclusion

0 = More than one area missing/serious issues with one or more areas

3.  Paper is written using college level writing, free of grammar and spelling errors as well as colloquialisms, except where appropriate to the artifact or respondent (s).

20 = Excellent writing

10 = At least one repeated, significant writing error

0 = Not college level writing for the majority of the paper.

4. Five credible sources were correctly cited within the paper in APA format.  At least three of these sources are from scholarly journal articles found in the Communication and Mass Media Complete online database.  All five of these sources appear on the reference page.

5. The paper contains interesting and well-reasoned information, particularly in the implications or discussion section.

20 = Interesting and well-reasoned.

10 = At least one major flaw in reasoning.

0 = Very little to no interesting or logical contribution.

6.  Cover page, abstract, headers, headings/subheadings, and appendices are in APA format.

10 = Perfect

5= At least one significant APA error

0 = Not APA

7. Reference page is APA, has all five sources that appear in the outline and only the five sources that appear in the outline.

10 = Perfect

5= not APA, missing sources, or extra sources

0 = No reference page
