1. I would like to explore the gender norms (the social role and status of male and female) in the “Tiger’s Bride” by Angela Carter. Since the author employs a strong feminist viewpoint to reveal the gender inequality in the earlier 19th century, my RA would focus on how the historical and cultural context affect the presentation of the fairy tale. Moreover, I would like to explore how does the author apply rhetorical devices to enhance her feminist element in her writing. 2. I will first explore the historical and cultural context that shape the message and purpose of the story in my rhetorical analysis. Then, I will analyze the author’s choices of rhetorical devices to construct her feminism element in the story. Some of the questions I will be continue asking myself are-- how do the rhetorical devices in the story highlight Carter’s feminist ideals? 3. Prior the the WR 39B, I have limited knowledge upon the rhetorical devices such as ethos, pathos, and logos in the writing. I would like to have a better understanding on how Carter employs these techniques to make her writing pieces more persuasive and creative. Meanwhile, I aim to include this writing technique in my future assignment. Moreover, I believe that understanding the historical background of a story helps us not only to get a closer glimpse of the story but also reminds us that the gender inequality issue still exist in our modern society. 4. At first, I merely wanted to focus on the feminist elements in “Tiger’s Bride”, however, I might consider to compare Angela Carter’s work to Margaret Atwood’s “Bluebeard's Egg” since both stories took place in the post-war feminist movement. Moreover, both fairy tales are quite different from the classic fairy tale. Therefore, for the drafting strategies, I would like to annotate them while re-read these two stories.
