The meanings of The Ramayana are found through the actions and personalities of its principal characters. It is part of the sacred literature for the Hindus, it speaks of the meaning of life, and how one should learn from ones actions and grow as a person.

You are asked to write an essay on the three central characters, Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita. The crucial scene in the epic is called the Golden Deer episode and decisions are being made by each of the three main characters that radically change the body of the story. Each has decisions to make that are abundantly apparent and reveal flawed judgments. In your essay, explain the scene, and the decisions and the consequences of each of the characters choices.
