The external questions: What kind of document is it?) This is a philosophical document on Racial Nationalism Who wrote it? What kind of person wrote it? It’s a combination of several texts written by nationalists who believed their race was superior to others. These were Europeans from Britain and a German. When was the document written? The contents were written around 19th and early 20th century. What was going on when it was written? In other words, what is the context of the document? The context of the documents was period of scramble and partition of Africa. The German and British superiority over the rest of the world was being promoted. Why was the written? The texts were written to depict racial superiority. By the fact that one is born belonging to a given race, that person stands superior and the rest of the races inferior. Such a person ought to dominate the inferior races and exploit them. For whom was it written? What was the document trying to achieve? The texts were written for Germans and British citizens to champion them to spearhead their racial superiority and occupy the inferior races. That was to be done for the benefit of such superior races. For example, colonization was depicted as necessary for UK society to support its growing population as shown by Cecil Rhodes. Then internal factors: What are the oppositions? And equations? There is clear opposition. However, the act of aggression can get opposition from the perceived inferior races. What kind of rhetoric/metaphors? Primary metaphor- The cross-breed of grey-hounds with pit bull which led to loss of some essential is compared to what will happen to Germans when they cross-breed with other races, they will lose the race’s ‘greatness’/superiority. What are the author’s assumptions? Especially unspoken assumptions? The authors of the texts assume superior features such intellectual, physical, psychological capabilities among other capabilities are inherent. The fact that one belongs to the race; such a person has all such features. The second assumption is that the so called inferior race was dying for superior race’s assistance for survival hence the need for their ‘civilization’ What do you think we might learn from this document from an historical Perspective? We might learn that racism was deeply entrenched for years and taught as if it’s the gospel truth through national platform hence reason is still an issue to date. Secondly, we learn that most of the wars occurring around the world are first groomed within societal circles before it actually happens in fronts. For example, speeches advocating for need to conquer Africa preceded the actual conquest.
