Asian Americans How? Started from people making simple jokes with their friends about other kids and it grew into a huge idea in people’s heads as to which race is involved in what type of professions, activities, etc. TV made it even worse by adding characters to TV such as Apu (Simpsons) or Raj (Big Bang theory) These were funny characters to watch because they had heavy accents and lived up to the stereotypical hype of being in that show.

ppt/slides/slide10.xml

Asian Americans Why? This new dynamic of adding Asian Characters to shows and movies really attracted a whole new audience of watchers. This was a bad way to earn publicity and it fueled the power of racialization on people. Terms like “yellow fever” and “dothead” began being thrown around in the mid 1900s due to the huge influx of Asian Americans into the U.S. Good Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi4ujBB7gvw
