1. Go online and read reviews of each book or play still on your list. Links to a good size for a book review is provided in the Learn More section. Read the reviews carefully, though, as not everyone will have your same taste in books.

2. The best way to know if you will enjoy a book is by reading an excerpt from it. You can do this by visiting your school or local library, or you can look online, as publishers now provide short excerpts from books online to help readers decide whether or not they want to purchase the text. Just search for "excerpt from [insert the name of the book or play]."

3. Consider the availability of the book or play before making your final choice. Almost all of these can be checked out at any library and should be available in every book store, but it never hurts to check before you make your final choice.

You will work on the outside reading assignment for this module while completing the other units in the course. Once you have made your selection, you will need to find a copy of the text and begin reading as soon as possible. Do not procrastinate on this assignment!

Choose five significant quotations from the novel that stood out to you. Be sure to identify and provide the following:

· Identify any figurative language in the quote

· Identify the tone of the quote

· Paraphrase the quote into your own words

· Connect the quote to a theme or larger idea in the text.

Each quotation should have 6-8 sentences of well-developed analysis. Be sure to cite the quote in MLA format and include a Works Cited Page.
