One of the many factors that a retailer, such as Walmart or Dell, faces has to do with supply chain business contracts with third-part vendors.

If you were a retailer, are there any business functions that you would not even consider outsourcing to a third-party service provider (3PL)? If not, why not? Your choice of a type of retailer could be some local one person business, such as Bob's Fruit Stand or a larger company such as Walmart.

Q4 (erica)

American jazz served as the foundation for rock and roll music. American jazz is explored in the Discussion this week.

Select one jazz composer that is not covered in the course text. (Some in the text include Scott Joplin, Sippie Wallace, Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Louis Armstrong, and Jelly Roll Morton.) Write the post from the perspective of the chosen composer. Discuss the style of his or her music. Explain how this composer influenced the development of jazz.  Also show how his or her contributions have impacted popular American music.

Write from the composer's perspective--using first-person voice. Do not just include a biography of the composer. The focus is on the style of music, contributions to the evolution of jazz music, and the impact this composer's music has had on popular American music. Include a YouTube link featuring a performance of the composer's music. Write in your own words. Cite all sources/provide links to your source(s).

Q5 (felton)

This week, you learned about human sexual anatomy. Many anatomy diagrams or descriptions take a clinical, mechanical approach focused on reproductive functions. However, the same anatomical structures facilitate pleasure and sexual experience.

How can anatomy education strike a better balance between the reproductive and pleasure-based aspects of our bodies? Why is addressing pleasure an important part of comprehensive sexuality education?

Q6 (felton)

How does the development of self-awareness and self-esteem factor into the development of social problem solving skills? Based on what you've learned, does the media (social, video games, music, movies, etc.) help or hurt the development of social problem solving skills? Please give examples to support your claim.

I have a challenge for you. Can you find an example, online, of a child, (any stage of development), showing positive social problem solving skills and an example with poor or no social problem solving skills? Start your search locally. If you can't find anything, broaden your search to state and national news. If you still can't find anything you may use social media. Please post the results of your search. If you found something, post the link/s, a summary of what you found, and your thoughts about it.

Types of Leadership (view video below)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_clro5RXqM&feature=youtu.be   Situational Leadership II (SLII) is the most comprehensive, up-to-date, and practical method of effectively managing and developing people, time, and resources in the world. SLII provides leaders with a model and the tools for creating open communication and developing self-reliance in those they manage. It is designed to increase the frequency and quality of conversations about performance and development. As a result, competence is developed, commitment is gained, and talented individuals are retained. SLII is recognized as both a business language and a framework for employee development because it works across cultural, linguistic, and geographical barriers. The foundation lies in teaching leaders to diagnose the needs of an individual or a team and then use the appropriate leadership style to respond to the needs of the person and the situation.

You have two options for this week's discussion.   Choose one of the two.

Review the figure 5.2  in the Dugan text.   There are four specific leader styles aligned on the chart.   They are directing, coaching, supporting and delegating.   These are leader styles.  There are also the follower's developmental levels described as D1 - D4.  There is a direct relationship between the followers level of competence and the leader's style.  For each developmental level there is an appropriate style of leadership that should be adopted (i.e. a style that depends on the situation).

Select one of the four leadership styles.    Choose a specific follower development level (D1 - D4) and give an example of how this leadership style and developmental level would work in real life.   In other words, create a "situation" that needs to be led and explain this concept in your discussion.

Watch the brief interview of Dr. Laurence Steinberg about nature's versus nurture's impact on human development.

In this video with accompanying transcript, Dr. Laurence Steinberg, Professor of Psychology at Temple University, explains the latest research findings into the nature versus nurture debate, highlighting the need to break down the false dichotomy between genes and the environment.

By Wednesday of this week, for your initial post, share your thoughts on the message from Dr. Steinberg combined with the these points:

By Wednesday of this week, for your initial post, share your thoughts on the message from Dr. Steinberg combined with the following based your own knowledge and experience:

Think about and compare two people you know. Each one of these two individuals has what you might suspect is a genetic propensity for being a leader. In other words, you have seen evidence that both of these acquaintances of yours were born with leadership ability. However, one of your acquaintances has become a leader and the other has not. What can you identify as the difference, today, between these two personalities?  First share why you think both of them have a genetic temperament to be a leader and then why you think one became a leader and the other did not. What main cause do you believe is the reason that one of them is a leader and the other is not?  Remember to take into account what Dr. Steinberg told us.
