1. You may -- or may not have -- heard the line "Aboriginal people should just integrate into Canadian society" or some derivative of this line of reasoning. Based on your reading of Dale Turner's article, why is this line of reasoning short-sighted and insulting? What subject position does this line of reasoning assume?

2. Dale Turner writes that in proposing Indigenous people be integrated into Canadian society, "[t]he federal government was categorizing Indians by their ethnicity and not by their legitimate political status as indigenous nations." Discuss why the Canadian Government sought to do this. How do Indigenous peoples complicate the idea of a "multicultural Canada"? That is, though multiculturalism is something in which Canadians take great pride, might it also be a belief that diminishes Indigenous peoples' place in the country?
