Question: This semester, we have focused our discussion on literature mostly on how literature comments on and moves society. However, if the relationship between art and society is a two-way street, then what is society’s responsibility to literature, in specific, and to art, generally?

In a 1000 word essay, write an argument for what society is responsible for when it comes to art and literature. Provide examples and reasoning in support of your argument. Draw, and focus on why you think society has (or doesn’t have) a responsibility to the arts, and why it matters.

You will be graded on how well you set up and defend your argument, the quality of the examples you use, and whether or not you answer the question with your argument.
