Moore , Ashley

Overall Comments

Ashley, you did a good job overall but I don't think this was the best article for this assessment. Please see my comments and let me know if you have any questions.

Criterion

Locate a scholarly journal article in a career specialization that reports a correlation, a t test, a one-way ANOVA, or some combination.
(14%) Competency

Analyze the computation, application, strengths, and limitations of various statistical tests.

not selected Does not locate a scholarly journal article in a career specialization that reports a correlation, a t-test, a one-way ANOVA, or some combination. selected Basic Locates a scholarly journal article in a career specialization, but the article does not report a correlation, a t-test, a one-way ANOVA, or some combination. not selected Locates a scholarly journal article in a career specialization that reports a correlation, a t-test, a one-way ANOVA, or some combination. not selected Locates an exemplary scholarly journal article in a career specialization that reports a correlation, a t-test, a one-way ANOVA, or some combination.
Comments:

You say in Section 2 that the study used chi-square analyses. That is not an analyses we learned about in this course. Later you say hierarchical regression analyses were used. The article you chose was supposed to be one that used a t-test, correlation or ANOVA, so r values, t values and F values should have been reported.

Criterion

Provide context for the research study, including a definition of variables and scales of measurement.
(14%) Competency

Analyze the decision-making process of data analysis.

not selected Does not provide context for the research study. selected Basic Provides partial context for the research study that may or may not include a definition of variables and scales of measurement. not selected Provides context for the research study, including a definition of variables and scales of measurement. not selected Provide exemplary context for the research study, including a definition of variables and scales of measurement.
Comments:

Which variable is the independent variable and which is the dependent variable? What are their scales of measurement?

Criterion

Identify assumptions of the statistic reported in the journal article.
(14%) Competency

Analyze the decision-making process of data analysis.

selected Non-performance Does not identify assumptions of the statistic reported in the journal article. not selected Partially identifies assumptions of the statistic reported in the journal article. not selected Identifies assumptions of the statistic reported in the journal article. not selected Interprets assumptions of the statistic reported in the journal article.
Comments:

I don't see a discussion of the assumptions of the statistical test. Saying "Another assumption was that all the variables correlated significantly" is a research hypothesis.

Criterion

Articulate the research question, null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, and alpha level.
(14%) Competency

Apply knowledge of hypothesis testing.

not selected Does not articulate the research question, null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, and alpha level. selected Basic Articulates some combination of, but not all of, the research question, null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, and alpha level. not selected Articulates the research question, null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, and alpha level. not selected Articulates the research question, null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, and alpha level in an exemplary manner.
Comments:

Good job with the research questions, but the null and alternative hypotheses were not correct.

Criterion

Report the results of the journal article, interpreting the statistic against the null hypothesis.
(14%) Competency

Interpret the results of statistical analyses.

not selected Does not report the results of the journal article. not selected Reports the results of the journal article, but does not interpret the statistic against the null hypothesis. selected Proficient Reports the results of the journal article, interpreting the statistic against the null hypothesis. not selected Reports the results of the journal article in an exemplary manner, and interprets the statistic against the null hypothesis.
Comments:

Good, but the results should have been for t-tests, ANOVA's or correlations.

Criterion

Generate a conclusion that includes strengths and limitations of the journal article.
(15%) Competency

Analyze the computation, application, strengths, and limitations of various statistical tests.

not selected Does not generate a conclusion. not selected Generates a conclusion that includes a partial list of strengths and limitations of the journal article. not selected Generates a conclusion that includes strengths and limitations of the journal article. selected Distinguished Generates an exemplary conclusion that includes strengths and limitations of the journal article.
Comments:

Good job!

Criterion

Communicate in a manner that is concise and professional and that makes proper use of APA formatting.
(15%) Competency

Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with the expectations for members in the identified field of study.

not selected Does not communicate in a manner that is concise and professional; does not make proper use of APA formatting. not selected Communicates in a manner that may or may not be concise or professional; often makes proper use of APA formatting. not selected Communicates in a manner that is concise and professional and that makes proper use of APA formatting. selected Distinguished Communicates in a manner that is concise and professional and that always makes proper use of APA formatting.
