The purpose of this study is to investigate social media rudeness and their effect on how people feel about it.

If you decide to be in this study, you will be one of about 1000 people in this research study.

DURATION OF THE STUDY

Your participation will involve a maximum of 10 minutes to complete the questionnaire.

PROCEDURES

If you agree to be in the study, we will ask you to do the following:

1. Look over the Facebook Post presented. 2. Answer a few follow-up questions regarding how you feel about

the profile owner's behavior or the owner himself.

The study has the following possible risks to you: Minor discomfort with personal questions regarding how you

would respond to specific scenarios in social media.

The study has the following possible benefits to you: Your participation in the study will provide useful data for

Debriefing Thank you for participating in our experiment! We appreciate the time you took to complete this survey

and for helping us test our hypothesis.

Our experiment was designed to look at two different things: whether Corey's reaction to the fake news

influenced your perception of him and if his apology (or no apology would also influence your perception. We

expect that people will view the rude disagree less favorably than the polite disagree and that the presence of an

apology could strengthen or weaken the above-mentioned rudeness effect.

Our hypotheses are as followed: In general, participants in the rude disagree condition will view the

rudeness less favorably than participants in the polite disagree condition. We predict that participants in the

apology present condition will view the rudeness more favorably than those in the apology absent condition. We

also predict an interaction between two variables, with participants in the rude disagree and apology

absent condition viewing rudeness the least favorably than the other conditions.
