QI WEEK 8 DISCUSSION POST REPLY
Your Future in Quality Improvement
Discussion Reply
Hello class!
Quality Improvement was a relatively new terminology for me before I began this class. I had heard this in passing at my work facility, however never had a solid grasp of what it entailed. I have learned that this is a huge umbrella term that covers a lot of ground regarding progressing in the healthcare field. My perspective has changed greatly now that I am educated about the entire process of putting an idea into action, research, and implementation. I am now able to see the importance regarding being an active role for implementing and managing these processes.
This new information is now a vital thought process as I work throughout my shift at our local hospital. I see every situation, email, training, etc on an entire new spectrum now. My brain is now wired different, I feel a certain obligation to speak up and share knowledge and data that would better benefit the organization as a whole. There is always plenty of opportunity for quality improvement within any organization, but especially healthcare. I can now be more aware and proactive in taking steps to better improve quality.
I do feel confident to lead a quality initiative within my healthcare setting. Working in a small rural hospital, there is plenty of opportunity for improvement. There is a relatively small amount of staff and our communication is excellent. I am now able to define myself within "organizational characteristics that facilitate or not the development of the work process. It is considered favorable when the professional demonstrates autonomy, control over the work environment, good relation" (Danno, 2021). This leads to optimal opportunity for executing quality initiatives. Now that I am aware of the processes that are involved, I am able to take my ideas to the next level and lead to real change within my facility.
