When making any policy, it is usually important for the project manager to engage all the stakeholders because they all play a critical role in ensuring the success of any given project. There is no project which can be in a position of achieving its goals easily without involving the stakeholders (International, 2019). If I was given the role of leading a project to come up with an inclusive policy for managing pedestrian traffic flow in a popular downtown metropolitan district, there are several methods I would put into consideration to engage the stakeholders in the project, and they are as discussed below. One of the measures I would apply is to carry out consultations on time, before the onset of the project. Conducting early consultations will make me gain insight into what causes the traffic and suggestions on how it can be controlled. Early consultations will also ensure that the stakeholder approves all the necessities and clarify what they expect from the policy. For instance, consulting those who use the highways into the metropolitan district will equip me with knowledge on the kind of impacts the traffic brings to their daily activities and help me determine the kind of policies to employ. Also, I can engage the stakeholders by working with them as a team. Managers are effective in their roles if they are keen to involve the stakeholders, and one of the simplest and yet effective ways of involving them is by letting them be part of the team making critical decisions for the project. In the case of the metropolitan district, I will let all the stakeholders, ranging from the project donors to the locals, give their opinion on each policy, which I will be proposing before it passed to be implemented. The practice of listening to their opinion will help add value to the process by ensuring that all the policies which I will be developing will have positive impacts and favorable to all the stakeholders. I would also engage them by creating a positive relationship with them, facilitating them to be free to consult me on any issue.
