TheImpactofTheGlobalDigitalDivide - Responses
The global digital divide portrays the global disparities basically between developed and developing countries in the bases to access to information and computing resources, for example, the internet and the benefits that are derived from such internet access. The disparity continues to thrive at a rapid rate since not all nations, in particular, the developing ones that are able to keep track of the dynamic changes. The term does not imply that some nations have no access to technology but it implies that there is a significant difference in the level of technology. The difference may be in terms of different levels of computing processing power, high internet connectivity, and other technical assistance (Pick & Sarkar, 2015). The disparity thus may continue making the less fortunate nations to have a challenge in enjoying the benefits as a result of current technology in various sectors of the economy. The commerce sector may continue growing at a low rate since most of the processes will not be automated thus hampering aggressive production. The other sector is health where human health cannot be effectively improved, for example, without access to disruptive technology like artificial intelligence where some activities like the complex surgeries will remain a challenge when only left on the hands of individuals. Low access to cloud computing can also hamper all the sectors of the economy since it all depends on data for the operation which can be made more effective and of great insight through the use of cloud, big data, business intelligence, and data visualization (Resta & Laferrière, 2015).
