Introduction

Hook: Public speaking is a form of presentation that is normally given live before an audience others may view public speaking as an oratory or giving of speech face to face in a live audience. It is modernly viewed as any formal or informal form of speaking between a speaker and a particular audience. Communication on the other hand is the transfer of information from one individual to another or also known as the exchange of useful information between two or more parties.

Purpose: An aspiring good communicator should be well equipped in the field of public speaking as through it a person can develop various skills that are necessary for a successful communication process

Thesis Statement: Public speaking is a very important aspect in the field of communication since through it a person can develop various skills such as boosting of speaker’s confidence, enhancing critical thinking, personal development and persuasion skills among others.

Body

Topic sentence one: Public speaking helps in boosting the confidence of the participator which is critical in communication.

A. A public speaking activity can significantly boost the confidence of the participant as through it he is able to overcome the fears and thereby communicating effectively.

B. A confident speaker is more likely to be understood and viewed with less bias when passing information majorly in the field of business or product promotion where communication is the key to more profits.

C. It enables you to overcome your fears and insecurities and by this the participator gets empowered to engage in fruitful conversations without fear. A study by the North Carolina Extension demonstrated that participation in public speaking boosts the students’ confidence immensely.

Topic sentence two: Public speaking enhances one’s ability of critical thinking which helps in communicating efficiently.

A. Public speaking improves one’s ability to think critically, people who have participated in public thinking are more likely to think clearly and rationally to understand the logical connection between ideas.

B. These people are able to participate in a communication without any prejudice based on factors such as culture or religion which may sometimes hamper the communication process.

C. Public speaking demands one to rapidly adapt to the changing discourse of his or her environment and so as to be effectively prepared for these changes, one has to think critically and research more deeply. (John O. 2014)

Topic sentence three: by participating in public speaking, a speaker is able to develop personal skills.

A. Communication skills are crucial for an individual development and through public speaking an individual gets to improve these set of skills. It enable a person to gain the necessary skills for maintaining a healthy communication letting his or her emotions cloud the process of passing information.

B. A good public speaker is also capable of developing other personal skills such as leadership qualities which can help him to participate in conversations without provocation.

C. Public speaking has many obstacles that occurs while speaking in front of an audience and by overcoming them, it grooms an individual to communicate effectively and also groom their points effectively and forcefully. (Anurag Aggarwal, 2015)

Topic sentence four: Persuasion skills are also improved which are essential while engaging in communication activities through engaging in public speaking.

A. Public speaking is long known for the non-violent activism and political change. It is a powerful way of uniting people and motivating them toward a common goal. Persuasion is the ability to intentionally and successfully influence someone’s mental state through the use of verbal or written communication. This skills are essential in nearly all stages of life and through public speaking, we can easily utilize them in our communication.

B. The more an individual practices speeches, the more he or she is likely to become better at communicating orally and this comes with an advantage in persuading others for instance in business field. (Gary Genard, 2019).

Conclusion

In summary, in order to communicate efficiently, we need to participate in public speaking as it helps us improve our communication skills through confidence and improving our way of thinking.
