Public Speaking

I. Introduction

   A. Gaining attention - please specifically describe the attention gaining device you plan to use in the speech. If it's a quote or speech or question, tell me what it is.

I will use storytelling, questions, and quote techniques to gain my audience's attention. People love stories, and if I present a compelling story at the beginning of my speech, I can capture the audience's attention. The story will be brief and relevant to my speech. Second, I will use rhetorical questions to gain my audience's attention. Rhetorical questions stimulate the audience's minds as they think of answers, making them more attentive. Lastly, I will use quotations to make the speech more creative and capture the audience's attention.

   B. Specific Purpose Statement - Be sure to word it correctly, per your textbook.

It is a phrase that specifies the general purpose of a speech by indicating the precise goal. The elements of a specific purpose statement are the speaker, audience, and context (Daniel, et al., 2019). The specific purpose statement helps the speaker pitch the speech's purpose: to inform, entertain or persuade.

C. Credibility - explain how you will establish your credibility

Credibility is the attitude the audience has towards the speaker that is influenced by similarity, character, and competence (Daniel, et al., 2019). I will establish credibility by first dressing appropriately for my topic, showing my character as a respectful person. Second, I will establish a common ground with my audience to demonstrate our similarities and make them like me or be interested in my speech. Third, I will demonstrate my qualifications by telling them about my experiences and credentials. Lastly, I will present my speech fluently, with confidence and enthusiasm, to show the audience that I am confident in the information I am presenting.

   D. Preview Statement - you will need to provide the one-sentence preview statement. You can also include information you plan to use to establish your central theme.

My topic is human trafficking in the United States which is an informative speech. My preview statement will be very brief, clear, and concise, with short phrases rather than complete sentences about the topics I will discuss in my speech. I will use "in today's presentation, I'm going to talk about what human trafficking entails and the different forms, why people are trafficked, vulnerable groups, the state of human trafficking in the U.S, and how to suspect and report traffickers."

Transition - if you are not combining the transition and internal preview, provide the transition here.

My transition will be, “now that we have established the main points and important elements of this presentation, I will proceed to the first topic, which is what human trafficking entails.”

I I. Body

A. Internal Preview - provide the internal preview statement that defines this main point.

Before moving to the next subtopic, there are some points I would like you to note; exploiting people to bend to your will either through labor or sexual favors is still human trafficking, and trafficking can also occur when there is an initial consent to services or labor.

1. sub-point (optional)

The first point is what human is human trafficking and the popular forms of human trafficking.

Transition - if you are not combining the transition and internal preview, provide the transition here.

I will combine the transitions with an internal preview.

B. Internal Preview - provide the internal preview statement that defines this main point.

As I conclude on this point, I would like you to note that the United States is experiencing one of the worst human trafficking rates in the world, and the leading states are Nevada, Mississippi, and Florida. Everyone should be careful at all times.

1. sub-point (optional)

The state of human trafficking in the U.S.

Transition - if you are not combining the transition and internal preview, provide the transition here.

I will be combining transition with the internal preview.

C. Internal Preview - provide the internal preview statement that defines this main point.

As I conclude on this sub-point, I would like you to note the following points as I conclude on this sub-point; traffickers are cunning and sometimes promise lavish things, don’t fall for it but report them to the police.

1. sub-point (optional)

How to suspect and report traffickers

III. Conclusion

A. Signal the end - transition to the conclusion of the speech. Use appropriate sign-posts.

In conclusion, human trafficking is a crime that involves exploiting people for services, labor and commercial sex.

B. Internal summary

C. Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery that is in the form of forced labor, debt bondage, and commercial sex. People are trafficked for profits, to provide sexual favors, and for free or cheap labor. The vulnerable groups are people with little social and legal protection. Human trafficking is becoming worse in the U.S, and people should be careful in public places.

D. Closing Remarks

Human trafficking is growing in the United States, people should take care of themselves and walk in large groups.

*If you are using the problem/solution or cause/effect organizational pattern, you may only have 2 main points in the body of the speech. If you are using any of the other organizational options, you are required to have three main points.
