Description of the Challenge

Dealing with difficult patents is a challenging issue that an early childhood educator is likely to experience ("Dealing from the Role of the Leader," 2015).

Talking to parents about their child after their kids failed a final exam is challenging.

It is the job of an educator to report to parents about the students who have been observed struggling academically

Educators ought to give parents recommended action to mitigate the issues

With Parent/Teacher Conferences coming up, some of you may be preparing for difficult conversations. Most of your students will finish up the year and move on to the next grade. If you hear from their parents at all, it might be a thank-you card. And, if you're lucky, it might even include a gift card to a local restaurant. However, for those who have achieved lower performance, it might be a hard task explaining it to their respective parents.

Students may be struggling academically or behaviorally and it is your job to report it to their families.

What is the Issue?

The issue here is to effectively address parents and to give recommended actions after their children receive lower performance at the end of the year.

As an educator, I need to elaborate to the parents about the need for such children to go to summer school after failing a final exam.

The child may have struggled throughout the year, and it may be difficult to recommend to parents about the need for testing.

Testing is essential as it would illustrate if the learners have learning disability (Lederman & Holliday, 2017).

Some parents may not feel so kindly toward their child's teacher as the year winds down. Perhaps their child failed a final exam and needs to go to summer school, or maybe their child struggled throughout the year and you recommended testing to determine if they have a learning disability. Or, maybe their child missed a lot of instruction, and you think they need to repeat the year.

Addressing the Concern with Parents in a Comfortable and Productive Manner

Initiating the conversation by starting with a sentence that introduces oneself and asking the parent if it is the right time to talk

Sharing specific concerns will require sharing relevant examples of how I see the student and explanation of a step taken to remedy the situation

Building trust requires taking time to ask the parent’s input to the child and keep focusing on finding an amicable solution

Finally, moving forward involves explaining clearly the necessary plan required to solve the academic concern (Morin, 2019)

Sometimes, such conversations can be equally as difficult for families. While it may be the first time you’re bringing up an academic concern, it may not be the first time a parent or caregiver has heard about it. One needs to use appropriate ways to make the conversation as comfortable and productive as possible. Starting a conversation sets the tone for everything else to follow and it is important to begin with a sentence that introduces yourself and asks if it is the right time to talk. Secondly, share relevant examples of what you’re seeing. Explain any steps you’ve already taken to try to address the concern. Third, ask for the family’s perspective in an open-ended way that doesn’t impose your viewpoint. To move forward, it is critical to end the conversation with a clear plan to do next. This is especially important if you’ll be meeting in person or asking other staff members for advice.

Leadership Style Needed to Address the Situation

My leadership styles required in this scenario will have a natural or asset

I possess invitational leadership style which help in creating a cohesive environment, creating a chance to elaborate the issue to parents (Stefanova & Nikolova, 2019)

The strategic leadership style will help me to shape the direction of the problem and this includes creating a strategy that allows the children to perform better.

With the use of transformational leadership style, I will be in a position to influence the parents to follow my predetermined cause of action (Lynch, 2018)

My leadership styles required in this scenario will have a natural or asset and I do not need to modify them when addressing the parents. invitational leadership blends several leadership qualities, values, and principles. They described the model as shifting from emphasizing control and dominance to focusing on connectedness, cooperation, and communication, which are essential in this case. Strategy involves decision-making aimed at shaping the direction of the organization. Strategy also includes considering broader core issues and themes for development in the school, instead of day-to-day issues. As a leader who switches to a transformational style needs to understand how to influence how tasks are perceived among her followers.

Course of Action

Fostering positive behavior to students as this has a direct contribution to the academic performance

Offer rewards to motivate the students and will improve their performance

I will set high standards of education and achievement to keep the students engaged in their classroom material

Offer hands- on learning options and assignments

Providing support and belief in the students throughout the year, which will raise their achievement levels

If the issue persists, take test on the students to determine if they have a learning disability.

The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support program, a teaching and training organization for professional educators, cites numerous studies on its website that suggest students with poor classroom behavior often struggle with academic skills. When it comes to motivational strategies that can help students maintain better behavior, offering rewards is a useful tool. According to SuccessfulSchools.org, teachers can impact student motivation and make improvements to the situation. Setting high standards of education and achievement in the classroom is a simple strategy that helps students stay engaged in classroom material. Providing hands-on learning options and assignments will give students something different and encourage movement that can help reduce behavioral problems related to boredom, attention disorders or similar situations. Believing in the students and offering support throughout the school year can help improve their achievement levels. When students are misbehaving and acting as a distraction in the classroom, it can relate to the lack of support and belief in their abilities. Taking tests that determine if the learners have learning disabilities is the last step.
